Best Electric Razors?
11-19-2014, 12:25 AM
I am in the market for a new electric razor.
I have a goatee and like to keep a five-o'clock shadow.
Any recommendations?
I have been using a very cheap ($12) Remington beard trimmer I found at Walmart. It's not trimming my facial hair in a way I like.
Input appreciated!

I keep 5 to 10 days of beard . I've using the Perfect Stubble by Phillips Norelco for years and have been happy with it. Has lots to settings to get the exact length you want. Not for very close shaving though, its designed for stubble /short beard.

Phillips. I've had one for over 5 years and no problems. Also when I switched to electric I stopped getting acne breakouts on my chin and above lips. Turns out close to skin razor shaves were irritating my skin and causing breakouts.

Many years ago I shaved electric. I had a Braun which was pretty good. Try to get a few of the foil replacement heads. If and when these heads have a hole in them, your skin will get pinched.
I know this thread is about electric razors, but I’ve gone strictly to wet shaving now with a double edge safety razor. Wet shaving brings ritual back into the process and opens the door for a wide variety of shaving creams, balms, oils, etc. I guess it’s another way to blow money, so go electric to be economical. Wet shaving can - and might already - be a thread unto itself.

I've been using a Braun 5428 since the '90s and hope I can outlive it. When I find something that works for me, I'm fiercely loyal.
It is important to get the genuine Braun replacement foils, which are getting very hard to find. The knockoffs rip your face to shreds -- don't even try them.
When I realized the cutting block and the foils (USA version) were getting scarce, I scoured the net until I'd found about a dozen that I've got stored away in a drawer. I shave only every other day, so a single foil can last me a couple years.
