Well, I don't know what it was about this story that pushed me over the edge - maybe it's the combination of it being 2am and me being slightly drunk, but this is a post that's been knocking around in the back of my brain for the last few weeks. Enjoy (or not), and sorry if it gets a bit preachy.

More predictable behaviour from the crusaders of Righteousness™
These people love going after petty things like this, because it establishes a climate of fear, where everyone watches every word they say for betraying heterodox thoughts. They're true Gramscians through and through, trying to create a hegemony over the language people use, and setting themselves up as hegemon so they can shape the way people think and act.
Don't be fooled into thinking that this is just the work of hysterical Tumblrettes; any prolonged hysteria that retains its area of focus (in this case, the phantom of "misogyny") is being directed by a highly organised party. I saved a post a while back (I can't remember from where, unfortunately) that sums up the purpose of these kind of tactics, although you may not agree with his diagnosis of the "enemy":

Read Yuri Bezmenov, Anatoliy Golitsyn, Vasili Mitrokhin, Oleg Kalugin etc. and you will see who really won the Cold War.
The good news is that this insanity can be stopped, provided enough people are willing to take action.
You simply have to use their own tactics against them.
What party do you think the "SJWs" contacted to demonstrate their anger? Write a letter to that same party expressing your support for Ted Bishop's right to free expression, and disappointment in their forcing him to resign. If at all possible, find the people responsible for the complaints in the first place and write letters to their employers, explaining how you don't approve of life ruining tactics being used to limit the free speech of upstanding American citizens.
"But then you're using life ruining tactics, and are no better than the SJWs!" No. You need to recognise that you are at war with tyrants. They will not stop, ever, because they know that every small victory accumulates until you have a large string of victories that turns the tide of a war. If you do not start to retaliate against their acts of aggression with equal force, they will win.
And their victory is by no means guaranteed. Look at GamerGate. Their arrogance led them to drastically overplay their hand, and now Gawker is haemorrhaging funds and allies, because a small subsection of a single subculture decided to fight back for once.
Seeing the indifference that people react to these days when someone's life is ruined for saying the wrong word
infuriates me. The most powerful effect of demoralisation is to convince you that the battle is already hopelessly lost.
It's not. Right now we're in the same position these people were in during the 1950s: all the institutions belonged to us, none of the institutions belonged to them. If things are different now, it's only because they were willing to organise, agitate and infiltrate to reshape society to their own ends. It can be taken back.
SJWs are trying to foster a culture of "corporate social responsibility"? Then start fostering a culture of our own, that condemns "corporate spinelessness". Stop giving your money to corporations that cave to these kinds of ridiculous demands.
Very loudly stop giving your money to them, and explain why.
SJWs are trying to create a culture of fear, where everyone is afraid to say the wrong thing? Then form a coalition against the use of life-ruining tactics for ideological ends.
Ruin their lives back, and let's see how brave they really are. My guess is after three or so prominent victories they'd get the message, because unlike guys like MikeCF, most of them are not anti-fragile, and can't survive without corporate sponsorship.
It's time we reclaimed our right to not be obsequious faggots.
