Victoria (((councillor))) wants less Christmas, more diversity in city's decorations

From the same city/council that removed the statue of Canada's first PM Sir John A MacDonald due to RACISM, overlooking his nation building leadership (without him the Canadian West = American)

Quote:Quote:

VICTORIA — Victoria shouldn’t be decking public property with boughs of holly, lighting up Christmas trees or handing out poinsettias, says Coun. Ben Isitt, who has won council support for a review of the city’s seasonal decorations.

Councillors agreed to have staff to report back on options for further secularizing or increasing the diversity of cultural elements in seasonal decorations.

In suggesting the review, Isitt said that a poinsettia recently appeared on his desk at Victoria City Hall.

“I don’t want a poinsettia. It is a symbol of the Christian faith,” said Isitt, who also questioned the lighting of the giant sequoia in Centennial Square outside City Hall.

The city’s $64,000 “seasonal animation program” includes installation of banners throughout the city.

It also, in partnership with Downtown Victoria Business Association co-ordinates a seasonal decorations program which includes Christmas and Chinese New Year.

(((Victoria city councillor Ben Isitt)))

While the city pays for seasonal lighting decorations such as the stars or snowflake lights on light standards, and the lighting of trees on Government Street, the lighting of Centennial Square is done by the business assoctiation.

Even though the association bears the cost of lighting up Centennial Square, it is a public space and the city should make sure it is inclusive and the city should not be turning the sequoia into a Christmas tree, Isitt said.

“Muslims, unless they are mixed families, they don’t have Christmas trees in their homes. Jewish people, like me, don’t have Christmas trees in their homes,” Isitt said.

However, he acknowledged that overtly religious symbolism has been “dialled back” over the years.

“I think there are still many elements of Christian symbolism that are paid for with taxpayer dollars and, for me, that doesn’t reflect a clear division between church and state.”

Isitt said having lights downtown “is great” and snowflakes “probably strike the right balance” but he city should ensure it is being inclusive.

While councillors supported the review, not all of them shared Isitt’s concerns.

Coun. Sharmarke Dubow, who is a Muslim, said rather than offending many immigrants, Christmas lights can be an interesting aspect of a new culture.

“I was born on Christmas Day. This is symbolic and I like them (the lights), on a personal note.”

Coun. Charlayne Thornton-Joe said efforts have been made over the years to rein in Christian elements of decorations and moved to outlines of snowflakes and candles as more reflective of a winter holiday. She said decorating downtown is good business.

“We take these opportunities to celebrate, whether it is for tourism or downtown businesses because when the downtown businesses thrive all through the year our whole community thrives. ”

Coun. Marianne Alto said it has to be remembered that the lighting is subject to interpretation.

“My family has never celebrated Christmas, but we always put up solstice lights. That’s from a tradition in northern Scandinavia, where life is so dark that it was an opportunity to provide some light in order to help people get through that terribly dark, long season,” Alto said.

“I do think we need to be cognizant of the fact that while we’re seeking diversity, part of diversity is also about tolerance.”

Isitt suggested something as simple as a review by a group with representatives of secular humanists and the Jewish, Christian and Muslim faiths might be all that is needed to ensure that publicly funded decorations are as inclusive as possible.

“Just get a temperature check. For me it’s the Christmas trees, it’s the poinsettias, it’s the hollies that sort of ruffle my sensibilities in terms of the expenditure of tax dollars. And snowflakes and even dragon symbols for Chinese New Year, they don’t, for whatever reason,” Isitt said.

He's trying to use the "taxpayer" angle, but let's be real, this is his pure internal rage and disgust at CHRISTmas, as seen by the fact that many costs are paid for by private enterprise, and his indifferent at the use of dragon symbols for CNY. Triggered by a damn poinsettia !!

The video of the city meeting is a bit hard to find, but should you find it, it's him whining like the a soyboy

I'll be sending the Victoria City Councillors these as a secret santa gift

Most every company or public function refers to it as 'holiday season's 'holiday shopping' 'holiday giving' etc.. Very deliberately not using Christmas anymore.

I saw a local missionary group had a 'holiday giving fundraiser', made me want to smack those pussies for cucking so hard.

Well, at least if they replaced all the Christmas-related decorations with snowflakes it would be very fitting. That dude really needs to get a fucking life. "Councillor." I bet all he does is sit at home all day thinking of things to be offended about.

Slippery Slope once the Merry Christmas line is crossed.
It doesn't stop with merely using the words "Merry Christmas", as stated above, officially this the city names it as "seasonal decorations", these people (cultural marxists) will stop at nothing, they view anything "traditional" as worthy of being destroyed.

The reason why local government churns out so many crazies is that leftists can operate in their own liberal bubbles (Victoria, B.C., San Francisco, inner-city Melbourne) and, compared to federal and provincial/state governments, usually have no major responsibilities.

The biggest actually anti-Semitic BDS drives back home in Australia, for instance, come from underemployed and lazy Greens councillors who devote entire council agendas and God knows how many ratepayer dollars to decide how to effectively boycott Israeli companies by combing through entire supply chains for the coffee, tea, milk, biscuit, and electronics products used and/or purchased by the council.

Also, you have to love this Victoria councillor’s open admission that costs for non-white ethnic celebrations (Chinese New Year) don’t annoy him, but economy-driving seasons for Canada like Christmas do.

B.C. has a spectacular problem with its working poor and other vulnerables:

Just like SF councillors expressing solidarity with MS-13 thugs and other criminals targeted by ICE and ignoring the massive homeless population, B.C. no-gooders would rather shit on their poor and engage in their time-consuming PC madness.

The symbolism is telling.

Jewish white house, literally in the form of Trump's jewish children and figuratively in his lack of ability to do anything about the zionist occupation of the US.

This SJW faggot should focus on more important issues in Victoria such as the high number of of homeless trash camping out all over the city, the fentanyl junkies who leave used needles in parks and on sidewalks and the city’s dumping of raw sewage into their harbour. I lived there for six months a few years ago, it’s a beautiful city but the locals are too far left for my liking, I had to move back to my red neck safe space in northern Alberta.

The thing is there is probably nothing Christian about poinsettia. It's just a tradition that developed later for Christmas and is specific for USA and not even universal. Also there is nothing Christian about a Christmas tree. It is pagan to the core and Bible even explicitly forbids Christians to have Christmas trees.

This whole narrative is so derivative, people don't have a clue what they are arguing for and against.

Christmas trees aren't even Christian, they're a pagan tradition that got adopted in one the earliest examples of "multiculturalism".

Those who deny Objective Truth become easy prey for Demonic Obsession, and, as such, become incapable of ever knowing internal peace. The incessant drive of the Progressive Jews for socially-conspicuous, irritated social activism isn't a holy crusade, it's a infernal curse. They exist as the earthquake and thunderstorm, never knowing the true power is being the small voice on the gentle breeze.

It must be hell. Do what I do: pray for them.

I am skeptical of a few Jewish politicians like this one. He can run away back to Israel any time in case shit hits the fan. Where will the others run away to? If the majority are for decorations, so be it.

I want them to cancel it totally. However I want those who celebrate Christmas to not spend money that year his wishes come to fruition. Sadly, we live ina a consumerist society. So I won’t hold my breath.

They hate Christ and hate Christians celebrating the birth of him.
It would bring them satisfaction that it has degenerated into a celebration of greed and consumerism. They wont cease until Christianity is completely defiled and unrecognizable from its roots.

Christmas is only Christmas in some countries ;-)

In the Nordic countries, it is still Yule, which is definitely nothing but pagan, even if people have forgotten where their traditions are from.

This is it, when you get down to it, sums up everything we talk about on the JQ related questions, a thousand myriad strands permutations......Jesus Christ, a long awaited messiah they gave up on ever arriving, arrives, pulls the rug out from underneath, they thought he was an impostor, discover he was the real deal and they are still severely embarrassed.

This is actually a very effective way of explaining the fall of Christianity in the west to ordinary people, everyone has essentially becoming Jewish (like the kind that existed just prior to Jesus existence) and they don't even realise it. Judaism essentially has to deny Jesus was the messiah in order to stay alive. And the low boil war has never stopped.

When you think about it seems too simple, and yet that is what the whole damn vague hydra boils down to.
