Why do you side with this man? He sells their house and gives away ALL the fortune they have and moves to a shitty rented apartment. Is that sane? There is nothing to have gratitude about this.

This guy was a first class asshole. His wife is justified suing that charity and getting some recompense.

To me, the story makes little to no sense about what caused what?

Was the guy giving away everything so that the wife would NOT get it..? That seems the most logical.

His motives also do NOT add up as described in the article, because it seems that the wife is merely frustrated that the guy is too charitable .. but even she concedes that he seems to be preparing for divorce. I am thinking that he must have some nest egg stuffed away somewhere because otherwise, he is NOT even preparing for his own future - even though maybe he is worried about his wife getting things..

Some key influential factors seem to be missing from the story.

Yeah, at first I had a visceral reaction to the story - man, what a bitch!

But what if your wife gave away everything you ever earned? That would be grounds for divorce too.

So... I don't know. And I think you're right, something could be rotten here.

i used to chase the pursuit of wealth endlessly, it made me quite comfortable for many years but i realized it cost me far more than it was ever worth as well as made me unhappy. i lost friends, family and my own self being for a very long time. I no longer buy $4000 suits or $15000 watches and do a lot of work for charities now days, and still do pretty well but do not have the sort of bankroll i used to have. However I am much happier now and even though a lot of people around me think i have gone mad doing so much pro bono work, and being as generous to my staff , i am 10x more content with my life then i have ever been.

there is method to this mans madness, i know because I have done the same thing in a different way.

keep in mind, it was his money, not hers, he can do whatever he fucking likes with it. She is just butthurt she will have to work now like a normal person, fuck her and her entitlement.

Maybe I am assuming that if you are nearing your 70s, whether you are a man or a woman, you do NOT want to work anymore, and you just want to spend what you have and to live your remaining years while budgeting your assets?

If the lady, had a false expectation that she had some shared right to the property, then that was one thing.. and it could be reasonable under the circumstances. Ultimately, I just get the sense that there are some important facts that are being left out of the story... Of course, there is a communication problem to have 30 years of a relationship, and then NOT know or understand what the other person is going to do..

Anyhow, I am just getting the sense that maybe this whole story is a big waste of mental energy to try to figure out when there seems to be important pieces missing?

Sometimes men become afflicted with the mania of giving away all of their possessions. It is essentially an ascetic religious impulse. They will not be content until they have been utterly dispossessed of all that they have.

This disease never strikes women; there is no such thing as a female Francis of Assisi. They are practical creatures, and they can become filled with a homicidal rage when they see a man throwing away the wealth and attendant comfort that the female views as rightfully her own under the sway of an abstract religious passion that they could not possibly find more foreign and more ludicrous.

The following quotes from the article nicely sum up the male and female attitudes on this matter, respectively:

Quote:Quote:

Living alone in a flat above his charity, he said: 'We acquired the life-style, we lived very well, but nothing gave me as much pleasure as giving it all away.'

Quote:Quote:

'I didn't intend to have to beat cancer and then spend the rest of my life living in a house like this and doing everything for everyone else.

'I'm sick of bloody charity and the hard work - we all are.'

same old shit, sixes and sevens Shaft...

I bet that bitch is salty that she didn't divorce him when they were still rich. [Image: lol.gif]
