anything good in Philadelphia?

'sup guys, i'm a long time reader but infrequent poster to these forums. Been reading this site since the days of Roosh's dcbachelor.com. Anyways, i'm going to Philly next week (haven't been there since my teen days) and wanted to fnd out what are the best places to swoop fly girls if one is custom suited. Money is not an object to me BUT location and good ratio are. I am especially interested in places that are walking distance from City Center. If anyone has data sheets please post them. As a side note I plan on hitting up Philly's new Sugar House Casino to try and "finance" some of my side-trips. Has anyon been there and what do you'll think?

Philly's a nicer city than some give it credit. Philly has an inferiority complex to NYC (Manhattan) sometimes because it is smaller, has more of a working class character, and unfortunately some high crime spots. I like the city for its own special charm though and its variety across the city and the Tri-State area (including NJ and Delaware). For girls there are plenty of White or Black chicks but also a fairly large South Asian population. Pretty girls abound in many places. I am not into the club scene there but hanging around Upenn/Temple/Drexler universities you can find plenty of winners if the 20-25 age group isn't too young for you. The only thing about Philly is that many younger people with jobs eventually settle in the burbs in the Tri-State area though they party in Philly. There are plenty of bars around though it can be very hit or miss to find one with decent chicks or chicks not with a dude. The performing arts is big in Philly so maybe there would be a chance at some of those venues. Center City has some good stuff though, check out Broad Street near city hall and Rittenhouse Square. Problem is though, it being cold out it really limits the eye candy.

If you like casinos, you may want to check out the Parx Casino 30 minutes North in Bensalem, PA. It is probably the nicest one in the area and is accessible by train + bus though it will probably take an hour or two.

Thanks Veni for that insightful info. Can you recommend any specific places for 25+ crowd as I am no longer into the sloppy drunk college scene and do you know of a good lounge or two on broad street? Parx casino sounds good, i'll check it out and will have a report soon.

I've lived in Center City (Old City to be exact) for two years now and am a native to the suburbs.

Neighborhoods you want to go for partying: Old City and Rittenhouse Square area

Old City - to reach the center, tell the taxi to drop you off as 2nd and Chestnut
Old City is popular with people from the suburbs, but the busiest area on a Thurs/Fri/Sat night. Many people like to consider it the capital of the D-bag, Jersey Shore types (which there are plenty), but many normal people party there too. Whites, blacks, latinos, asians, indians - they all come here. Some of these ethnic groups have their own bars, but some bars are very diverse. Every type of bar is here - from upscale lounges, shitkicker hole in the walls, clubs and sportsbars. There is an ungodly amount of bars in small block radius. However, some of Philadelphia's (and the nation's for that matter) most historic landmarks are in Old City, and some high quality ethic restaurants also lay within the neighborhood.

Rittenhouse - tell the taxi "Rittenhouse Square"
Rittenhouse is where most of the yuppies go. There is some diversity, especially in specific clubs, but most bars have a high percentage of white people. Lots of bars, but more spread out than Old City. In the Rittenhouse area, you will find bars easily, but it's not one cluster like Old City.

Both neighborhoods are in walking distance of wherever your hotel is in Center City, but if money is not an issue, use a cheap cab on a cold night. If you are here on a weekend, I would suggest Old City Fri night, Old City the Sat night.

You are looking for 25+ crowd, lounges, and places that would be most accepting of your custom tailored suit. Knowing that, here are my suggestions:

Byblos (Rittenhouse) - 116 South 18th Street, Philadelphia, PA - Hookah joint by day, dance club at night. Plays a sort of Indian techno downstairs, hip hop upstairs and on the upstairs deck. Very diverse crowd.

Public House (Near Broad, closest to Rittenhouse) - 1801 Arch Street, Philadelphia, PA - Huge bar/club with nice decor, and good dj. Probably the highest amount of hot girls than in any other bar in Philly, but some have a little bit of attitude. Alot of slamming girls though. Not extremely diverse though. Must dress decent to get in.

G Lounge (Rittenhouse) -111 S 17th St Philadelphia, PA 19103 - Philly's closest thing to a upscale New York club. 20 dollar entrance fee, loud techno music, have to dress fly, but tons of hot ass bitches.

Bleu Martini (Old City) - 24 South Second Street, Philadelphia (Old City), PA - Upscale club in Old City. Very diverse as typical of Old City. Need to be dressed well to enter.

National Mechanics (Old City) - 22 South 3rd Street, Philadelphia, PA - This bar is half hipster, half yuppie. However, it is pretty much a douche-less free zone. Decent number of ladies, most of which are not pretentious. Good DJ. Not diverse, mainly white crowd

Lucys Tophat (Old City) - Top Floor, 247 Market Street, Philadelphia, PA - Lucy's is a perennial Philly college bar. The capital of drunk 21 yearolds. However, they opened an upstairs last year, which has the most diverse crowd of anywhere in the city. Girls from all over the map.

Afterhours -
Recess (Old City) - 125 South 2nd Street, Philadelphia, PA - Bars close at 2 in Philly, and there are only a few afterhour joints. This is the best one. It has a very diverse crowd. I've seen Mcnabb and Ryan Howard here in recent months. However, it is hard to get into. Crowds come at 2 when the other bars close, and then whoever gets in usually has an in with the bouncer or owner or some shit. If you want to get in for sure, you need to come at 1:30. There usually is a good ratio, so it is worth it. If you haven't swooped by 1:20, and you are in Old City - get your ass down to Recess quick (nowhere in Old City is far from Recess, shouldn't be a hassle).

I don't actually know much about lounges. I know a few but don't their names. There are tons. I would suggest if you have a craving for a lounge, just come to Old City at the location I gave before - and just walk until you find one that looks good. All these bars are in like a 5 block radius, and mostly on Chestnut Street between 1th street and 4th street, so it's not hard and will not take alot of time.

Don't go all the way out to Parx casino, it's kind of far. If you are willing to go that far, just hop on down to Atlantic City (50 miles from Philly). You can even take the train there for like 10 bucks. Go to Sugar House. Sugar House is not, nor is Parx or anything in PA, comparable to the casinos in AC. There is nothing very special about Sugar House, but it is very very close to downtown, which is where you are staying.

Philly does not have an inferiority complex to NYC. We are the fifth largest metro area in the country, so we are pretty big - but NYC is a world city, and probably the number one world city according to most people. We don't compare ourselves to NYC tho.

Let me know if you have anymore ?s. I got enough info reading stuff on here, I was waiting for somebody to ask about Philly so I could give back

Hey, I love Philly but when I was there some people we're always comparing themselves like, "It's not NYC but..." I hail from an even smaller metro so Philly was actually a step up for me.

Damn, those are some awesome datasheets. Can't wait to visit and throw down some game. Public house/G-Lounge sound like the real deal.
Roosh can we get Ehs a rep point for this post?
Btw, if you ever need any info on Washington, DC msg me.

Thanks man, no problems. I'm moving to DC in the fall, so you might hear from me later about info actually.

Yeah, you're right, we do compare ourselves to NYC sometimes, as it is the closest big city. But it's kinda like comparing Dennis Rodman to Jordan. Yeah Rodman (like Philly) has great assets, but it's nowhere near the same caliber.

If you make it to AC, the class casino is Borgata. It's off the boardwalk where all the other main casinos and attractions are, but it is the newest and hippest casino in town. Speaking of comparisons, AC also doesn't compare to Las Vegas. It is also taking a hit because of legalized gambling in PA, but it's still a worthwhile excursion with some decent casinos.

While Public House/G-Lounge are in the definitive Center City near to Rittenhouse, make sure you swoop east about a mile to Old City for a night (or at least a couple hours). It is considered both the entertainment and historic district of Philly, and there are thousands of women dressed scantily clad even in the dead of winter.

I thought of two other joints that can added to that list:

L'Etage (just off South Street) - 624 South 6th Street - South Street is like the Haight Street of Philly, but with a larger black population. You should hit it up, but during the day - as the nightlife there consists of harley enthusiast bars. Yeah, it's quite a strange street. One exception is this joint. Pretty classy joint, but not pretentious. Many grad school students. Fair number of attractive ladies. Not far from Center City, walking distance.

TIME Lounge (Rittenhouse area) - 1315 Sansom Street, Philadelphia PA - You were talking about lounges before. This is the spot you need to go. Jazz lounge with live band on bottom floor, dance club with a great dj upstairs. Always ladies. 5 dollar entrance free. Recommend this big time.

Alright, that's it man. Continue this post telling me about what you thought. Not too many people travel to Philly on this forum, so I'd like to see some opinion - be it negative or positive

Well just came back from Philly and left impressed. Toured a bunch of sites such as Eastern Penitentiary, Mutter Museum, Philadelphia Gallery of Art, Temple U and so on.

First impression, a ton of hot white and Asian chicks on almost every block, way more on average than DC or Baltimore (two cities I know by heart). Walking around Rittenhouse and Midtown was a definite feast for the eyes. Even as the temperatures hovered in the low 50s saw hotties everywhere wearing nothing more than mini skirts and high heels (note to self gotta get to Philly in the summer asap!). Me and my wingman were a bit drunk most of the trip so our hollering didn't help when trying to get their attention.

As for your suggestions you were right on with Public House bar. Went there for happy hour and didn't even need to try. Girls were talking to me and making first approaches (that never happens in DC). 7+ all around the place, ratio 65f/35m. Awesome place!!!! Were it not for a late night tour which i had pre-scheduled I probably would have stayed there till close.

Friday night and due to some NCAA tournament action hit up Fox and Hound bar as it was next to my Radisson hotel. Decent bar for sports and food but had bad ratio (although the few women in the bar were all 6+). Couldn't really isolate any girls as most were in groups. After the game was too tired and decided to call it an early night. Next day did some sightseeing with street game thrown in (especially around Ben Franklin Pkway area). Stopped a few girls (tourists?) and asked them for directions, to take photos, as well as for happening bars as ice breakers. Most answers were pretty direct and I couldn't really number close. Ended up hitting Sugar House casino where I lost track of time (spent probably 3+ hours) BUT did "finance my trip" winning some serious dough in BlackJack and Roulette. Once it was around 1am finally got myself to Time Lounge.

While you rated Time Lounge highly, for me it was a bit of a letdown. Almost all the people were downstairs listening to a good sounding acid jazz band however as much as I like chilling to that type of music girls were on my mind. Went to the upstairs dance floor hoping to get some grinding done but it was mostly empty. For some reason the place also seemed to attract a younger crowd (maybe I just hit it on the wrong night) so I lost interest quickly plus being suited felt overdressed for the place. Once Time Lounge closed down tried to hit a late night joint called Whisper's as per some locals suggestions. While I arrived too late as the bouncer attempted to charge me and my friend $20 until club closed so we did what all PUAs would do and proceeded to run street game with the good looking crowd outside. That seemed to go well and resulted in some numbers. What's your 411 on Whisper's club? I don't want to keep my story long but just to conclude I think a future trip to explore Old City is in order especially as the weather get's better. Also, I believe Philly might be close to a perfect 10 for street game with so many beautiful women on every corner almost makes DC look like a military town.

Next time you hit up Philly check out the 1st floor (the lounge/bar) of a restaurant called Alma de Cuba on the weekend, its got fantastic food and a good ratio. Another good option is a tappas bar/restaurant called Amada where you'll do well in custom suit... the ratio there was pretty good and you get to simultaneously uncork a few bottles.

Pretty good info by ehs. Two things:

1) I would just add "Cuba Libre" in Old City. It is about 30 meters north of Bleu Martini on 2nd street.

Cuba Libre has two floors with bars on both floors. When I went it was salsa downstairs and (I believe, but don't quite remember) bachata upstairs. Atmosphere is very latin, of course and the talent was impressive.

Last time I went to Cuba Libre, I saw the best latinas I have ever seen in Philadelphia. However, I have only been there twice, so I am not sure if this is the norm or if this was an abnormally good night.

2) I can vouch for bleu martini as well. I had a great time there several months ago, although I would not say it was that diverse, but rather more dominated by the black crowd. Agreed again on the sharp dressers.

Since this was posted, a casino called Revel opened in Atlantic City. This is now the newest and hottest casino in town. I posted more data on Atlantic City here: http://rooshvforum.network/thread-14885.html

I haven't been clubbing in Philly for some time. Years, in fact. There are a lot of nice bars which cater to the "alternative" crowd, so it does pay to know where you're headed. South Street is still pretty trendy, but not like it was 10 years ago. Ulana's used to have a fantastic goth night, if you're into that sort of thing. Beware anything near 12th and Pine as this is ground zero for the gayborhood. The Trestle Inn near Spring Garden seems to have made the transition from neighborhood strip club to trendy brew pub. Been there a few times and had a lot of fun.

Where are the yuppie white bars where it is not diverse? Not trying to Indian race troll the thread, I just know what I want to find. Dressing up in a suit is fine. I am looking to roll to Philly tonight to escape DC. Also, any info on wine bars?

Being that Philly is like 60% Minority its hard to find a TRUELY diverse Bar. But your best bet is what is mentioned above Olde City (Here is a link)

slothpiece,

As you probably already know, Philadelphia has a quite large black population. I'm not sure if there are many bars left where it is not diverse at all.

That said, last I checked, center city was still HQ for yuppies. Some of the higher-end sports bars (I know, sounds like an oxymoron) tend to have a high population of native white Philadelphians. And on a friday/sat night you will find females there, despite the sports-bar status.

I would check specifically center city, west of city hall until around rittenhouse square. Unfortunately, I cannot name specific bars for you.

Not sure if you're still in town but I lived in Philly until this summer and my go to spots were Ladder 15, Alfa, and Public House, which are all in the Rittenhouse Square area. You can also take a quick cab ride to Urban Saloon and a few other smaller bars in the Fairmount neighborhood.

Philadelphia has a wealth of great nightlife spots if you know where to look. Here are some of my favorite Philly clubs and bars broken down by neighborhood. As you can see I am biased towards Rittenhouse, then Old City, then NoLibs/Fairmount but this can vary based on your tastes.

Rittenhouse:
  • Ladder 15
  • Drinker's
  • Continental Mid-Town
  • Smith's
  • G Lounge
  • Franklin Mortgage & Investment Co
  • XIX
Old City:
  • The Plough & the Stars
  • Lucy's
  • Mad River
  • Bleu Martini
  • Cuba Libre
Northern Liberties:
  • Lit UltraBar
  • McFadden's
Fairmount:
  • Urban Saloon
If you guys have questions I can break down any of these venues for you. I generally enjoy the classier yuppie Rittenhouse area and occasionally the fist-pumping Jersey crowd of Old City but I'll occasionally venture into hipster territory (I'm still not a fan of the Barbary and probably never will be). As for parking, I sometimes park at the GlaxoSmithKline building on 15th and Spring Garden which is always $5 for the entire night and is within proximity of Rittenhouse or I'll park off JFK or just use those quarter meters depending on what part of the city I'm in. Happy hunting!

Praetor,

Very nice line-up. Question: Do you know of any place on par or better than Cuba Libre in Philly for finding top notch curvy latinas? So far, Cuba Libre is the best I've seen in the city.
