Haven't Seen a Rule Against This, but I Wanna Make Sure...

I've written and just published a Kindle book regarding men's health. Specifically, it's about how industrial chemicals have been fucking up men's hormonal and reproductive/sexual health for about a century or so.

I'm wondering if it's against any forum rules to post a thread linking to the book. I can't say that I read any rule against it. Still, I want to be sure.

If it's just a link then I think it counts as spam. Write an rok post explaining some of the concepts and ideas and then link your book at the end.

Thanks. That was the plan... to discuss the topic a bit in a post. I simply wanted to be sure that promoting my shit wasn't against any rules.

I think your safest bet is to send a PM to Tuth or another mod.

Would be interested in reading about this. Maybe a ROK post would work well.

Now there's a thought worth looking into.

Maybe you can have a few members who are interested in the book PM you and you can give them free review copies. Not sure if that's against the rules.

Put up a signature and then make high-quality posts. Make your presence known and people will check it out. You can also put "PM me for a free review copy" as part of the text in your signature.

I'd caution just throwing up a link in a post with only 150 posts under your belt. Good call asking first though.

An ROK post is also a good idea. You can get a lot of traffic if you guest blog and post on relevant forums on a regular basis.

Whatever you do, just be sure to make it about more than just marketing yourself. You need to become a valued member of the community if you want people to take you seriously, and doing so will give you a lot more clicks on what you're offering too.

Soooo... maybe following this well-intentioned advice wasn't the best idea (at least not for me). I received a goddamn "temporary posting suspension" of 7 days for "using affiliate link in signature and trying to sell to the readership. Likely spam." [Image: huh.gif][Image: undecided.gif]

To Beyond Borders... I wish upon you TERRIBLE blowjobs from the next five chicks who decide to insert your penis into their mouths (hopefully 200-pound, bona fide 2s). Let's throw in a pregnancy-scare or two, for good measure.

P.S. During the suspension, I noticed that my signature, which includes the infamous link to my book, was no longer showing on my posts. In figured that was standard, as the offending link, and thought nothing else of it.
Now that the ban has been lifted, my signature is back. Am I being tested to see if I remove it myself? Hmmmmm.
DILEMMA, DILEMMA.

There are no rules (yet) but there is a culture against spammy behavior like that.

You've been here for almost 2 years and have 5 rep points and yet want to promote your work?

That's parasite behavior.

Why not add some value before trying to extract money from the group?

For example, McQueen has pitched in and helped countless guys before linking to his for-profit work.

A lot of guys didn't even know I had a blog. (Look at my rep points. I freely give.)

You're one of those Internet Marketer types:

I'm far from the Forum Police but if you keep it up you're not going to last long here. This isn't like most message boards. (That's why it's the ONLY message board I post to.)

Bottom line is this: are you considered or seen as a member of the community?

If not, and you're plugging your work, when most of us don't know who you are, you're a spammer.

You can always promote your stuff in your signature.

Um, that's what he got a 7 day ban for.

I didn't get to see his signature.. But a lot off guys on here link to their blogs in their signatures.. Is that braking the rule?

He was pretty blatant about it... linking to an amazon affiliate link instead of a blog, and also used all caps, bold, and red color. Then when his suspension ended, he brought essentially the same signature back and whined about his suspension.
