I never understood what Rust saw there for a second in Carcosa

Wow that finale had me by the edge of my seat they really know how to creat tension. I love this show! Too bad its already over now Im out of good entertainment again. Also the way it was wrapped up seemed a bit ... quick. They just shot the guy and then they mention "ya it was some kind of voodoo cult" and thats it. That was a bit disappointing IMO they couldve provided more backstory.

He talked about it in an earlier episode, he used to do a lot of drugs and gets these flashbacks. It happened in an earliers epiosde too when he was looking at the sky.

McConaughey did a Kimmel interview. Apparently his and Harrelson's stories are donezo after the first season so only a couple more episodes to go. I guess the two were always bigger than the show. New stars for the next season, in a new location with a new story. Maybe we luck out with Bryan Cranston, or maybe Clint Eastwood...

Yeah they plan a different cast and storyline for each season.

I found the ending slightly disappointing. While the scenes leading up to it were very powerful including the final chase it seemed to come up short and left a lot of questions unanswered.

It is without a doubt the best show I've seen on television.

100% agree. Although I was expecting more, especially compared with the rest of the season's episodes.

I believe the vision Rust saw in the killing chamber (at the center of the Carcosa lair) was a Jacob's Ladder or basically a stairway/ascension to Heaven. It was a symbol of his finally coming toward an answer, and possibly spiritual salvation. At the very end, we see that Rust has had a vision of his daughter and father in the afterlife, and is starting to find some sliver of spiritual hope and optimism.

Great show, and the finale did a decent job living up to the hype.

What I'm gonna miss the most though is the awkward dialogue between the two of them:

I think for a second there it did have the potential to be the best show on television, but in the end it wasn't. I think the first half of the season was phenomenal and then it kind of fizzled out after the cop interviews were over. Episode four, going into the biker scene and black ghetto had me terrified and losing my mind it was so good.

I didn't expect some fat ass hillbilly to be the culmination of the show. There seemed to be too many clues and too many things to read into for the show to end with garbage like that. It seemed too intelligent for that ending. Wasn't anyone else expecting some mindfuck?

What was the big thing about Marty's daughter becoming a slut and the scene where his little girls are playing with a princess crown and it flies into the trees? What was Rust doing creating those people figurines out of beer cans? How could those junkies that got shot by Rust and Marty been so enveloped in Carcosa and the Yellow King when it was fuckin billy bob hillbilly. Why the hell was the preacher all that important? Why was it called True Detective singular, not plural?

I was expecting some ending like Rust ends up inside that Lair, and faces off with hill billy. Rust is about to die when Marty comes bursting in and Rust soon has a look of hope. However Marty looks on at hillbilly in recognition, tells him to stop, and then Marty holsters his gun and smiles. The look on Rust's face of betrayal and awe would be heartbreaking, forcing Rust to grab his own gun and shoot himself due to uncontrollable insanity thereby throwing himself into his nihlistic nothingness. Jesus that would have been miles better.

The writers fucked up and made me feel silly for thinking that there was more to this show than what we were given. Am I wrong here?

The fact that the ending was nuts and bolts threw everyone off. Thus it was the best possible.

You're right IMO. I thought it fizzled in episodes 7 & 8. Up 'til then the show was an addiction (for me at least). I was also expecting a way, way more ballistic ending.

I was expecting answers to many of the same questions you posed; too many clues and too few answers.

What about the five male dolls that the oldest daughter had in her doll sex scene? I thought for sure they tied in with the five beer can figurines. We have to assume that the lawnmower man was the "Yellow King"? Why? Because he may have had yellow paint in his hair (like he supposedly had green paint)? The Senator, Eddie Tuttle, gets off scot-free. Etc., etc. Fuck that.

I loved the show, but what could have been a grand slam ended up being a three run homer. Still great, but, what could have been...

“….and we will win, and you will win, and we will keep on winning, and eventually you will say… we can’t take all of this winning, …please Mr. Trump …and I will say, NO, we will win, and we will keep on winning”.

Her drawing graphic sexual pictures, her positioning five male dolls surrounding a naked female doll, the crown scene and her mental illness suggest she was one of that cabal's victims. Girl grew up to be a bi-polar slut (was getting double fucked by a couple of dudes).

The 5 beer figurines represent the 5 men Rust saw in the video.

Marty's daughter's sex pics were a mislead, she had nothing to do with the pedos. If she had, she wouldn't have ended up a bipolar slut [read: average well to do American girl] but in a fucking mental institution, or dead.

And in the end, the show is about two men who's been through some shit, and their relationship. In a way that's what Seinfeld had, but I like to call this "Comedians in Cars getting Coffee", but on a much deeper level.

In the end it's about Cohle getting over the death of his daughter, but seeing the light and reason to live. Why was he so obsessed with this shit? Maybe his daughter was murdered, or not, but it was not just about freeing young kids, but also almost a death-wish.

As bad as most American girls are, being seriously chemically imbalanced and getting trains run on them isn't typical behavior. The 5 figurines surrounding the girl is too specific.

Her taking the (yellow) crown away from her sister and throwing it up into the tree represented that her sister wouldn't get abused like she did.

People who have such traumatic sexual abuse done to them during childhood seldom remember it until their mid to late twenties. Such horrific memories become repressed.

I dunno guys. In the end it was just a "Hey look that's not Rust, it's Matthew Mcconaughey from the Dallas Buyers Club who was almost laid to rest by billy bob the hillbilly. Here he is crying, babbling away about his philosophical bullshit that has now actually gotten old, looking like some burnt out hippie, half crippled in a wheel chair after being the muthafukin man only a few episodes earlier, might as well give him that Emmy too."

Haha I'm just bitter. I was so hyped on this show.

Agreed.

Too much of a Hollywood ending. would have been better if it ended after the hillbilly got popped in the head.

That shit Mcconaughey was babbling on about at the end was a repeat of his shitty Oscars speech.

It had SO much potential! (Still it's only the first season I guess..)

Damn you HBO!!! Why don't they have the series on iTunes already. I watched two episodes on vacation, and really want to finish the series. I want to buy the rest of the series; but it's HBOs stupid policies that might make me lean towards streaming it on some random site.

Yeah, specifically Jessica Chastain from Zero Dark Thirty. I haven't seen her acting, but I won't hold my breath on it. WH and MM were perfect this past year, anything else will be a step down and a bitch will probably be several steps down.

I was actually just wondering the other day about female driven shows, are there any good ones? For drama all I could think of was Law and Order: SVU, which is a guilty habit of mine but nothing special. My friend suggested Broad City and Veep, but I feel like both of those shows suck, and wouldn't have had a chance in hell of being produced if the leads had been dudes.

Jessica Chastain's agent came out and shot the rumor down, so apparently this isn't happening. Which is a shame because she's a pretty good actress and imo one of the hottest popular actresses out today.

What irks me is that I get the impression that it's a female driven cast specifically in response to criticisms that the first season was misogynistic or had one dimensional female characters. Which is bullshit because a.) the characters were misogynistic and b.) Maggie was very layered and given a good storyline.

It's just bullshit that a show can't have two male characters without a bunch of feminist cunts bitching about it. There are countless shows on TV (none of them good of course) with an all female cast, yet it's sexist when it's all male.

Nic Pizzolato should of told his critics to go fuck themselves and written whatever he wanted. Still have hope it'll be a great season, and I'll watch no matter what (would have enjoyed Chastain) but I hate seeing celebs cave to media pressure.

Colin Ferrell is going to be one of the 3 leads for Season 2.

Very exciting. He is one of my favorite actors.'In Bruges' and 'Seven Psychopaths' are masterpieces.

Never care much for Matthew McConaughey until some of his recent roles. This role and performance in True Detectives is legendary. One of the best shows I have ever seen. Interesting how the two characters were able to reconcile the affair years later.

Vince Vaughn confirmed as 2nd of I think 3 leads. I predict that Jerry Seinfeld is the 3rd, as the show officially merges with "Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee"

Good show with solid acting. Mathew McConaughey has come a long way since Dazed and Confused. Woody Harrleson is always a solid actor.

Starting watching Twin Peaks as apparently it influenced this show quite heavily. Personally I don't see too many similarities but Twin Peaks is solid nevertheless.

I recommend the site tubeplus.me to watch all types of shows...It collects links to external streams. Works very well and that way you don't have to mooch off friends for a password.
