When to Buy Plane Tickets

That's actually very interesting, but what about where to buy them from?
There are a plethora of locations and often times people have a difficult time deciphering which should be used.
For example I plan to fly internationally in about 100 days, so I seem to have missed the mark for ideal ticket prices.

You buy airline tickets from airlines, not from web sites. The prices that are shown on Expedia are the same as the prices shown on Travelocity or any other third-party web site.
The only difference is that not all of those sites show everything. I use Skyscanner. It's at skyscanner.com.
But I always buy my airline tickets from the airline's web sites after I pick one.

I've been using southwest's own site or hotwire. I really like hotwire because they have those "surprise" bookings for hotel/car/flight where you get something dirt cheap but it isn't revealed until after you pay.
For all the hype, kayak doesn't seem to have very good fares shown.
