Anyone Use Life Lock, Identity Guard, IdentityForce?

I was looking through this article, but I am not sure if there is some hidden motivation behind the article (promoting one over the other).

It seems like with Life Lock, the $1M policy is only good if you can prove Life Lock failed, etc. Seems hard to actually get them to pay.

Identity Guard (which is cheaper through Costco) seems to be if you lose up to $1M they will give you $1M.

Any thoughts?

Thanks.

Not worth it, you'd be better off calling each of the credit reporting agencies and freezing your credit to avoid fraudulent activity.

LifeLock CEO Todd Davis, whose number is displayed in the company’s ubiquitous advertisements, has by now learned that lesson. He’s been a victim of identity theft at least 13 times, according to the Phoenix New Times.

No service will prevent identity fraud. The best bet is to monitor your credit report, credit card balances, bank balances and tax returns.

I've started writing a thread about my personal privacy journey actually, it will address some of those concerns. On the whole, they are not really needed.

Currently I use Experian credit tracker. I'm going to switch to protect my ID though. Experian credit tracker is useful but doesn't offer the daily monitoring that protect my ID does. The link is below.

These services do nothing except report to you after you've been fucked. Essentially they are sprinkler salesmen coming to your house after it's been burned down. Monitor your own credit and save the money. If suspicious activity takes place, freeze your credit, report fraud, and handle it from there. Sadly, there is no intermediary between you and the credit companies, i.e someone who can check with you to see if new opening accounts are legit or not. You can ask the credit companies to do this, but it's up to their discretion whether they will or not. Another thing you can do is take your name off mailing lists for credit offers sent by mail. People can intercept those and fill them out as if they are you, if they have your information. Here's the link to OptOutPrescreen. It's a legit service setup by the major credit reporting agencies. I filled this out a few months ago when a coworker of mine had his identity stolen and I became even more diligent in protecting mine. It's quite fast as I haven't received anymore mail from AmEx, Discover & those random banks you've never heard of. I had been getting like 2 to 3 offers a week by mail prior to opting out.

I would suggest that everyone set up a free credit karma account and login to it at least twice a month. You will see any pull of your credit info and any accounts taken out in your name. You would be catching it after the fact, but quick enough so it doesn't ruin your credit.

What does this do for you, specifically?

I'm asking open ended just to see how you've used it, or it's best use according to your insight

That's just one of those services that they call you to sell you this by force, and hope that you don't notice the charge passing on your credit card every month.
