Am a big fan of Felix Dennis, self made publishing tycoon. In this talk he recites some poetry. Not normally a fan of poetry readings, but this is good stuff. Check out his piece on women at 10.12

His book How to get Rich is great.

Yes, TED have some great talks. How do you get invited to attend them live? I guess you have to make a major donation.
I like looking for videos of talks given by authors I enjoy reading and comparing their personalities to the mental image of them I've already formed in my mind. I'm usually pretty accurate, but one TED talk given by Susan Blackmore (The Meme Machine) showed she is the exact OPPOSITE of what I had in mind. She was trying to get acceptance for her concept of "Temes" - Technological memes - though it hasn't taken off, like the word meme itself.

I've heard tickets are $6,000 - and that's if you can get them in the first place.
I know guys who are involved in their local TEDx groups, which are usually completely open. That might be a cool way to get involved and meet like minded people.

Well, $6,000 is less than I thought. I don't live in America now. I don't know too much about the organisation itself. Do they have international chapters?
Another good online resource for somewhat simillar talks is the youtube channel "authors@google". Has the videos of all the authors who have accepted invitations to give talks on their ideas to Google staffers in their NY and California offices/campuses.
They have them all over the world, check it out:
