EU work permit (urgent)

EU work permit (urgent)

Hey everyone I've got a quick question. I have a potentially lucrative( in the long term) internship opportunity in Germany. Catch is I'm a US citizen and they need me to have a work permit to hop on that.

For anyone who'se worked in Germany on a temporary basis what steps do I need to take to get that permit and how long will it take? I've looked on official sources and they're extremely opaque, failing to clearly delineate between different types of Visas and which is most appropriate as well as the specific requirements to get one.

Thank you all for the time.

You should check out the biggest expat forum of Germany and search there: http://www.toytowngermany.com/forum/

I found a blog of an american who came to Berlin, he explains his process here: http://travelsofadam.com/2012/05/how-to-...-american/

This seems also noticable: http://www.german-way.com/for-expats/liv...r-germany/

Another tutorial of an american artist who is in Germany: http://alonglook.com/blog/how-to-get-a-g...ance-visa/

Or this one from another american: http://annaguillotte.com/blog/2014/4/10/...erman-visa

Just look for blogs from americans who are in Germany and wrote about their process in general etc. I don't know which type of work permit do you want to get etc. But first, skim over the blogs to get a feeling and second, use the expat forum. That is at least what I would do.

Hope that helps.

How long is the duration of this?

If you want to get a general work permit you need an offer letter from the employer, and follow the procedure in link #1. They should be helping you with this ideally. But my guess is they know the position likely wouldn't qualify for a non-EU foreigner seeking a work permit, so they want you to have one already through other employment/residence permit.

It might be a better bet to go the route in link #2 (also at the end of link #1), the Self Employed residence permit.

Americans are dreamers too
