Cheapest/Best domain name registration and management?

Does anyone have any suggestions for the cheapest method by which to register/renew and manage domains? I used to have quite a portfolio, but found myself not renewing many because the renewal fees were too high, given the amount of domains I had registered. I'm about to renew two domains now for a total of $24 usd. The original registrations were around $7, but new registrations have since been jacked up to $10. Renewals are $12. While not a lot of money individually, it adds up when trying to keep a number of domains active.

I'm not trying to draw spammers, just legitimate objective suggestions.

one.com

and godaddy

Personally, I would register my domain at GoDaddy and host at Hostgator.

I have used namecheap a few times. They seem to be ok. They will give you a deal if you transfer your domains from another registrar. And as a bonus, they offer free privacy protection, which is almost $10 on Godaddy.

For hosting, I've been with Hostgator for the past 2 years and they're world class. Their customer service/live support to help you with anything related to installing a site/blog is simply outstanding, 24/7 someone very knowledgeable and helpful is there to help you. I've lost count of how many times they've been a lifesaver for me when I tried to install new sites and all. For domains, I've been using dnbuy.com and godaddy. Between the two, I much prefer dnbuy.com but that's just me. Godaddy are good when they have their specials where you can buy a .info domain for 99 cents.

Resurrecting an old post here. Duh, lol.

Anyone recommend the best place to register 10 domains or more with privacy guard? Seems like namecheap might be an option but seeking opinions.

Obviously, would like to keep costs down. Thanks for the info.

I have recently migrated from GoDaddy to Hover.com. I have around 10 domains and I found GoDaddy to be chaotic and very difficult to navigate with upsell / cross-sell messages blasting from every corner of their website. Hover is a complete opposite: a super-simple site for domain purchases and management. And they include domain privacy by default. Probably not cheapest but we are talking single dollar differences here.

Disclaimer: I am not a representative or affiliate of Hover, simply a happy customer.

I used to use Internet.bs to register domains and manage them all. Their prices have gone up though. They give you free whois privacy. I would never recommend Godaddy. They will hijack your domains in the shopping cart process if they want them badly enough. Never search for domains on Godaddy. They will go off your searches and snatch them up and put them up for premium dollars. They are good at stealing domains from people.

luckyregister is pretty good. no complaints. Can't say it's the best but I can say for sure it's better than Godaddy

For new domains I've been doing this:

1) Search Google for "99 cent domain" and register it at one of the companies listed like Register.com or Network Solutions. Make sure to disable auto renew.
2) After 60 days transfer it to GoDaddy for $1.

So, 2 years for about $2. Add yes I admit it, that is being very cheap.
