I'm 31 mate. Testosterone levels in men do start to decline around this age, but mine was way under what it should be have been. A normal level for someone my age would have been in the range of 600-700 ng/dL, mine came in at 300.

Check this thread from the Steroidology forums for info on where to get cheap blood tests in the US - it's actually a lot easier and cheaper than it is over here.

Damn I'm 33...... I need to check into getting the test.
Thanks for your info, I'm glad I read this thread even if other are not as thrilled ha.

No worries pal, glad you got some use out of it.

Great to hear you got it sorted. I'm interested to know how you convinced your GP to order a T test at the age of 31? Mine was reluctant even for a guy in his 40s. (I did get the test eventually and it was pretty normal for my age, but I can't help thinking I might feel even better with the T-level of a 20 year old!)

I was quite insistent. I came in complaining of most of the symptoms of secondary hypogonadism, and said I wanted a full blood panel running, which included serum testosterone levels.

My initial level came back just inside the reference range, but since the reference range includes samples from 70 year old men, that's not saying much. I had to really argue with him to get a referral to a urologist, and then an eventual prescription of gel-based treatments.

A long and winding road later, I'm now actually self administering with shots, and I've never felt better. I'm aiming to keep my T level around 1200.

The way I see it - if it's possible to have the T level of a 20 year old for the remainder of my adult life, with minimal health implications, then why shouldn't I have it? I've never felt better, more confident, virile and vital in my life.

Props to you for being persistent and taking charge of your own health. I guess there are some risks associated with T shots from your age for the rest of your life, but I'll let others comment on that.

I'm interested to know what form you're using (t-cypionate?) and how much, how often?

200mg test cypionate a week, split into two shots - one every 3.5 days. 0.25mg arimidex every other day for oestrogen control, and 250miu of HCG each day before the test shot to stop my balls shrivelling up, and to keep me fertile.

How was the gel? Did you feel better (more virile/more horny)? I realize that there is nothing like injections but just curious.

The one concern I have about TRT is that once you're on it, you're on it for life it seems. Any problems travelling with your syringe and ampules (or whatever it's in)? Ever had to explain it to others (men or women)?

Apologies, missed the replies to this thread.

TRT is a lifelong commitment in the sense that once you start, why would you ever wish to return to your previous, testosterone deficient state? Believe me, once you've had your eyes opened to how much more incredibly awesome you will feel when brimming with testosterone, you'll never want to go back. Technically, you can come off it and run standard post cycle therapy to try and restart your natural production, but the longer you are on TRT the harder this will be.

The gels will make you feel substantially better in the short term, but are the worst solution. They have a short half life, and have mainly worn out of your system by the end of the day, leaving you on a physiological and emotional rollercoaster. I felt so low some evenings I found myself sobbing. Additionally, because you apply them to a very large surface area, they aromatise (convert to oestrogen) massively, meaning that you have to control the sides with an aromatase inhibitor such as arimidex. They are better than nothing, but not great.

My male friends were a little shocked at first, as they've never known anyone on TRT, but very quickly accepted it as normal and started taking the piss in usual good natured fashion. I told my current squeeze about it on the second time she stayed over. She was absolutely fascinated, and watched me doing my shot.

Out of curiosity, how has the increase in T affected your sex life? I know if I start lifting I see revolutionary changes in my sex drive and stamina, and I always assumed it was because of a testosterone increase.

So I'd imagine you're seeing some pretty epic improvements in that department, eh?

God yes. It's gone from "disinterested limp noodle" to "rampant lecherous sex pest semi-permanent erection" - kind of like when I was 18. The transformation has been nothing short of revolutionary.

Additionally, supplementing with 10mg of cialis daily gets things going even more. The benefits of cialis are numerous, over and above just increasing blood flow to your dick.

In the past I've used daily Cialis at 5mg for months at a time. But I got worried about becoming psychologically dependent on it, so I'm on a break. What would you say are the "numerous" other benefits?

Amongst other things, it boosts NO levels, which gets more oxygen to muscles during a workout.

Other benefits are listed here:

Personally, I don't see much reason to discontinue supplementation at any point.
