I live in Asia and a block of tofu is a super cheap way to get some more protein. A block costs about 35 cents and I just throw it in a bowl and eat it with Tobasco. I have come to really enjoy the taste and texture.
I heard the story that tofu gives you man boobs, floods your body with estrogen, etc. Should I stop eating a block every day? What is an appropriate amount to eat in a week/month?

It depends on your body. Do you have manboobs yet?

lol I'm pretty sure it's a) shit protein and b) gonna give you manboobs like Cameltoe said, haha. Get off it entirely IMO. Soy is bad for dudes.
In SE Asia chicken breast was pretty cheap. At least 1/2 to 1/3 of what it costs in the west, Im sure local or cheapo stuff is even cheaper. And that was in the luxury "organic" supermarket.

While soy should definitely be extremely limited in your diet, it's never good to eat too much of one thing anyway. Variety is perhaps the most important component of any balanced diet. Surely, you can find many types of dry beans for cheap, experiment until you find some varieties that you enjoy. If you're eating tofu with tobasco, you obviously aren't too picky.

No I am not too picky. I will eat pretty much anything. When somebody says they are a foodie I want to punch them in the face.
I was trying to lose fat on a low carb diet and tofu has about 5g of protein for 1g of carbs. Beans are mostly carbs I think.
No manboobs yet. I will cut down to maybe 1-2 servings a week instead of 1-2 a day.

Men will start to generate estrogen from soy after about 25 grams which I believe is just above one single block of Tofu.
It's best to stay away from it. Get chicken thighs and legs as they should be priced just as cheap.

My favorite affordable protein source to douse with hot sauce is good old eggs. Quick, cheap, delicious and versatile. Pair them with spinach or broccoli for some low calorie nutrition and excitement.
If you are staying away from meat, I'd also recommend checking out tempeh (which is soybean based but often also contains other grains) and seitan, which is made from vital wheat gluten and packs way more protein than tofu. The carbs in both of these options are higher than tofu, but at least seitan won't make you lactate.

I have been eating 4 eggs a day for a while now. Anymore and I think I would puke. Tempeh is good. Where I live its readily available. Also what do you guys think of canned tuna? I eat a fair amount of that too but I am worried about the mercury poisoning.

Tuna can have higher than average mercury, if you're concerned eat sardines.

Eat fermented tofu and you're fine. Raw tofu has the bad stuff, the phytoestrogens or the xenoestrogens.
