In the UK, a number of aging celebrities in their 70's/80's are now being prosecuted for something they may or may not have done in the 1960's and 1970's - decades known for chicks wearing mini-skirts and hot-pants.

Some leading female barrister has made some common sense remarks in an article:-

" Ms Hewson argued that ''touching a 17-year-old's breast, kissing a 13-year-old, or putting one's hand up a 16-year-old's skirt'' are not comparable to cases such as the Ealing Vicarage rape or Fordingbridge gang rape and murders from 1986.

She added: ''Anyone suggesting otherwise has lost touch with reality.''

Another thing she should have mentioned is the liberal (liberal as in, used often) use of the word "paedophile". The old dudes getting done aren't being accused of groping 4 year olds. More like 14 year olds. Yet you get people referring to them as "dirty pedos" etc

They may have abused positions of trust, some might have been predatory sexually, but they aren't paedophiles.

I think any arbitrary line is foolish, far better to make the age of consent fluid, maybe have an exam or a class you have to take? Could include correct Condom use and std info.
The issue with an absolute line is that it creates pressure on those reaching that line to have sex, it also demonizes anyone sleeping with someone under that line. Even with the consent age of 16 there are 18 year olds having sex who are obviously not mature enough to do so, and on the flip side there are those under 16 who are ready but need to break the law so do so.

I think the Dutch had an age of consent of 12 until quite recently. Their reason was that they didn't want to prosecute young people for having sex with each other. In the end they seem to have concluded it was a bad idea and the AoC was changed. I guess to the typical 16.

Interesting take by the lawyer, and good for her for presenting her opinion. A problem I see here, however, is that many of the "old men" being prosecuted in the UK right now will not make sympathetic victims. As a start they seemed to have grossly abused their positions. The Saville guy seems extremely sleazy for example. I agree that in many cases what they did shouldn't really be considered illegal and that they shouldn't be facing prosecution this long after the incidents anyway. Also that the complainants names must be public. They are big girls now. But there are likely much more sympathetic victims. i.e. Entirely innocent men who have been set up by the modern day puritans who manage politics and the criminal justice system.

Having tons of pregnant early and mid-teenagers isn't a good thing. I don't think that they should make it legal open season on girls that young, while at the same time, I appreciate her view overall. Prosecuting this nonsense is just moral grandstanding. Teens aren't the least bit sexually naïve, and know what they're doing. You don't send a man to jail for copping a feel off of one of them. Just the same, adult men need to be careful about what they do and who they do it with. Underage girls are always going to get banged out (consensually), but lowering the age to 13 isn't the way to deal with this issue.

A few years ago i found myself routinely being followed around by teenage girls in malls and supermarkets.
I was maybe 23 at the time and they were pushing 14 and that's being generous... I wanted nothing to do with them.
Where I'm living right now there is AoC of 16 with 2 year close age exception for 14 year olds...girls no older than 12 are fucking guys 10 years older under the radar.
An ex-friend of mine would bang out junior high girls (12-15) consensually. He never got caught but i distanced myself from him because of it.

I can only imagine the sort of hamster rationalizations men would make if the AoC was lowered by 2 or 3 years...

Funny thing about this as well is.
The AoC is my city is 16, yet you hear of older men being charged with some pretty creative charges.
A 25yr old guy can fuck a 16yr old girl and have it be consensual. Then be charged with "invitation to sexual touching".
With the laws around now it's super dicey messing around with girls under 18.
The worst part of it all is you cant record the encounter for your own protection because you'll producing child porn.

Girls enter sexual maturity anywhere from 13 to 16. They are 100% ready and eager to have sex. This has been true for, oh, about 500,000 years. Only recently has our society been moronic enough to slap a completely arbitrary age (18) on this biologically normal activity.

The common argument, by the stupid people "They are children". Well, actually they aren't.

Many of your Grandmothers, Grand grand mothers, etc, were married and having kids by age 16, and running farms, fighting wild animals too. They were tough cookies. If we went back in time and told them about our under-18 rules, they would laugh in our faces.

The age of consent laws were created to recognize this reality of biology in the human race.

20 year old boys and 15 year old girls have always had sex, they will always have sex, because it's biologically normal and in fact pretty much healthy. Making that illegal is like making breathing illegal. idiotic.

Honestly, when you dip below 17 you're dealing with a child. Puberty and physical maturity are only a small part of the equation. Just because they're exposed to more sex and sexuality, and may experiment with sex at a young age doesn't mean they're ready to deal with the consequences of sex with an adult. We see the rash of teachers fucking with students, and most of the cases in the last several years seem to be women doing underage males. The first thing out of our mouths is, "If that were a male teacher doing that, he'd be crucified, blah, blah, blah." Adults can't take advantage of their position to take advantage of teens. Even if you aren't their teacher, adults still have a responsibility to protect youth. Do what you're going to do, but don't expect the law to give you the green light.

As well keep in mind if it were socially acceptable for men to openly date/fuck/hook-up with 13yr old girls the 30yr old women would lose what little opportunity they had to score a beta provider. That beta provider might aim lower in age and snag himself a virgin girl of 12 or 13. It would ensure paternity of his children and she'd be financially dependent on him as well limiting her options to leave him.

Every time I've gone out day gaming I've run into at least one underage girl (below 18). I've had to soft eject once I've discovered their age. A large majority of the time they still wanted to meet up later and hang out or at least keep in touch. I've come too close to the fire dealing with too young females.

I was walking down the street on my way to work last week, and I heard some footsteps behind me, next thing I know I'm being flanked by two teenage girls. There was a pretty blonde girl who seemed very interested, strode on up, says 'hi' smiling with strong eye contact and so on. She looked about 17 years old. I would have pushed onwards towards an eventual close had not the other girl(sister I'm guessing) who was around 13-14 years old decided to trail along as well. Made me very uncomfortable, no man needs to be tainted by that. I'm 30.

Last year a 15 year old girl told me in a matter of fact way that I'm 'welcome in her bed anytime' and I hadn't even spoken a word to her before she said that. She should be legal now though

Lowering the age of consent from 16 to 13 in the UK is a fucking terrible idea. What would have once been my pension is now going to pay off the debts incurred by teen mothers, illegitimate families and IRT Prostitute Rings anyway, so the idea that baby factories should open up their doors three years earlier would just be the icing on the cake.

Decent, older guys would not benefit from this in anyway. No, 14 year olds too dumb to wear a condom would be, and ultimately, we'd all be paying for it.
