There are several things you can do.
* take a class at a Junior College
* go to http://www.betterphotos.com and take a course
* go to youtube and put in photography lessons
* go to book store and buy a basic book
* join model mayhem

A combination of these things are how you learn, you will pick up a little here and a little there. When you are ready to look into buying equipment then let me know.
Great info H2H. How much time do you spend editing photo's? Is basic software like photoshop adequate or something more advanced? I've always had an interest in photography but it comes down to a logistical issue, like carrying around a big ass camera everywhere you go. Also, have you ever tried this on non-
models, say 7-8's that have never been shot?

Photoshop is key, but you only need to learn how to edit photos and do a few cool editing tricks that make your photos standout. You don't need to carry around a camera everywhere, but you need to have access to a online portfolio so these girls know your serious. Having a very nice camera and nice lens help. It give you instant credibility. This works great on 7 and 8's that have never been shoot before. You just need a sales pitch like," i would like to do a test photoshoot with you and see how you look in front of the camera. I have been doing this a long time and I think that you have potential." This works best for girls who have never shoot before.

This is an interesting idea to me since I'm kinda into photography and have some gears : a Canon 7D, a 30mm f1.4, a 85mm f1.8 and some zoom lenses. I started shooting pictures and learning photography about two years ago, still an amateur , but it's fun. My photography buddies always tell me that it's better to get an external flash since it's great for portraits but I didn't take it seriously enough. Now seems a good reason to get one! lol.

Photography is all about understanding light, and learning how to use lights in order to get the image that you want. If you want to take legit photos of models you ought to learn about lighting. If you're truly interested you should talk to some photographer about apprenticing with him. Photography is, for the most part, a craft, so you have to not just have (or have access to) good equipment, but you better know how to use it too.
Take a look at some great photos, which are abundantly available all over the net, and try to figure out why/how they look the way they do. Learn about color, learn about design, any sort of craft that deals with aesthetics can help you with photography.
Then again, most guys on here who are interested in doing photography in order to gain access to models will probably prefer to do things gonzo like brazzers. mahahah

Doing a little research on this technique, seems that amateur photographers are being "outed" on ModelsMayhem.com. As hard2handle said, in order for this to legitimately to work, you need to be as close to professional as possible with a decent portfolio, because these girls can sniff out someone who doesn't know what they're doing and hence, no bang. If you do, wow, will they open up and treat you like the king! According to a professional photographer buddy of mine and, obviously, hard2handle, bangs after a professional-level photo shoot are common, even if the model isn't going to be guaranteed to be used in a magazine (i.e. paid). Its almost like they're "grateful they weren't dealing with an idiot" as my buddy puts it.
My brother is an independent filmmaker and I help him cast and produce occasionally. Of course, during the casting calls and readings, the women recognize that it is an actual production and see my brother's track record in indie film festivals. He bangs the star during filming every time. All of them are friends of his to this day. Its cool like they know what's up, that there isn't anything there long term, but they appreciate his art and how he is making them look. They see him as king. He didn't get there by producing amateurish product, he produces high quality product and hence, reaps the benefits. Just my two cents, but if you don't put the work in just like inner and outer game, you won't reap the benefits.

Hard2handle,
I would LOVE to learn photography. Any good online course you can recommend? I'll see see here in BKK if there are any good courses at the local college/uni to enroll in. The hardest part would be IMO to build a portfolio and credibility specially when you start out as a fresh newcomer. Any tips on that regard to help smooth the transition from newbie to at least having a decent portfolio buit up. Also, tips/suggestions on the best way to approach and get models to agree to shot for you when you just start out would be appreciated. Do you place ads in the paper or just approach them in person and do your pitch right there and then?

Sounds like there is some kind of subliminal psychology going on when you are put in the position of photographer over an inspiring model, that allows you to skip multiple attraction building steps and have her privately posing next to nude at a location and time of your choosing. Not that I understand it 100%, but basically it sounds like you can go from 0 to a bang in the blink of an eye.
Its almost like your portfolio (of hopefully beautiful women) is perceived as their competition and mimics the same psychological triggers in her mind that she would have if she were perusing you and knew you had options. This puts her in the role of a person that is trying to impress you (the submissive, in a bathing a suit no less) without having to do any heavy lifting. Its brilliant.

I think 18-22 yo girls (maybe older in other countries) are naive enough to fall for this 99% of the time. Sleazy - yes. Unoriginal - maybe. Works - yup. These dummies brains are so occupied with thinking they are going to be famous that only 10% of it is left available for rational thinking, and fame is an aphrodisiac.
BTW, fuck real models. I would much prefer a girl with model good looks with no real prospects and no attitude.

I'm a hobbyist photographer myself, with equipment (nice camera, lights, softboxes, umbrellas, etc), and I know all about modelmayhem.
FYI: that website is TOTALLY SATURATED with guys like you trying to bang the girls. It's a running joke among the models even, and you can very quickly get a reputation as a sleazebag over there.
But being professional and honest and, most importantly, talented will open a lot of doors.
