Edmonton?

As ye guys have helped me out so much with my chosen city of Calgary taught i might try to get a bit more advice off ye this time on E-Town. I am going to be based in Calgary (i hope) but work could be bring up e town direction and i want to get a bit of information on it as it would be good to no. So anyone recommend the best clubs/pubs for someone in there mid 20's to go too?[Image: smile.gif] where would be the best place to stay if work brought me there for 2 or 3 months? somewhere close to public transport to allow easy access to downtown i would want. Calgary has 17th avenue does e-town have an equivalent? is there any must sees in e-town? for me in Calgary it will have to be the Olympic stadium. anything to watch out for in e-town for a solo Irish traveler?

Edmonton?

Edmonton sucks.

Just kidding. It isn't too bad in the summer. They actually have a lot of festivals going on during the summer months. Whyte Avenue is in my top 2 for favourite spots in all of Canada for a night out. I would almost go number one but tough to compete with some of the events that go on in Montreal. U of A is right on Whyte and so is the big Uni hospital. So a ton of young girls running around.

Edmonton is way different than Calgary. The winters are some of the worst in Canada, but it gets the most sunny days out of anywhere in North America I believe, Canada for sure. The summers are way better there than Calgary. Calgary gets cold at night and has a ton of wind. Edmonton on the other hand is more humid and thus stays warmer at night. A lot of summer nights you can wear t-shirt and shorts all night long. In Calgary you might actually freeze if you did that. Edmonton has a brutal train system. The streets and avenues though are very simple to figure out. Basically in the east end it starts at 1 street and goes higher as you go west. Same as South to North.

Girls are more hipster there and lack style. They are however easier going and more laid back than Calgary. Because Whyte Ave is full of people walking up and down all day and night it is really easy to approach. Plenty of skirts walking by. I get just as many SNL's there as Calgary. The men are very blue collar. Even the slightest bit dressed up seems out of place. The downtown core has a few high end places but nothing like Calgary. Usually when I go out with my hockey buddies we are rolling in jeans, fitted shirts and hats. You will notice most guys look like they play hockey. A lot of dudes with the hockey hair and wearing hats. They also like to fight a lot more up there. Been in plenty of fights when I was going to school. All of them on whyte ave. I have been beaten and mased by the cops on whyte a few times.

Rent is a lot cheaper in Edmonton than most Canadian cities so that is a plus. Again Alberta has the lowest taxes and the lowest drinking age. So you will pay less for gas, booze, cigarettes and get to hit on 18 year olds in the bar.
