Agree with the above. What is the worst that can happen? You get falsely accused of rape by a girl you banged after she discovers your book and you spend 10 years in prison becoming a member of the Aryan Brotherhood? You could write a second book!

Seriously though, interested to follow your updates and who knows where this will land you. Maybe you get a TV deal like that dude from the show Getting Abroad on MOJO TV before the channel got nuked a few years ago. Dude traveled the world exploring the local dating cultures. The Travel Bum dude got a TV deal I think.

The point is, you are going on an adventure that will lead to unexpected and unforeseen events and opportunities. This could change your life forever. Who the fuck knows what will happen.

Neil,
I wish you the very best of luck in this new Hollywoodian adventure of yours! Whatever the outcome, you will learn a ton from it. Maybe even meet a model or 2 or 10 make some cool contacts along the way. Also, speaking of Mexico, when you get there, get in touch with the local film industry there as the Mexican movie industry is huge. Network like crazy there!

Another thing, and I'm sure you've already thought and know about this is to create an entire line of books/guides on travel, saving money but also getting laid for the backpackers marekt. You could become like the Roosh equivalent in that market if you play your cards right. Create guides for various countries like Roosh has been doing with his Bang series but with a focus on how to save money, getting the best deals, cheapest places to go/stay/eat and have fun, clubs, bars etc...

All in all, all the best amigo and keep us updated on how things go!

Cheers!

Hell, most of his travel expenses should be tax deductible through a corp. Once I am able to start hitting the pavement again, I am going to start a blog just so the company can pay most of my expenses while also using the write offs. I could care less if the blog made money or not.

I think Neil just wants to be in LA for the summer. The best time to check out those bikini wearing california girls on Babewatch.

I know some guys have been hard on you and told you that you've gone about things wrong or your chance of success is small but they are missing the point. The point is not really if you get a film made or not IMO, the point is you're having a great adventure which will result in a great story one day regardless of the outcome. How many people can say they've written a script and moved to Hollywood from Europe to sell it? I think it will be a cracking adventure that you will be able to write a book about in the future no doubt. That's what I don't get about you; on the one hand you come across as a hippy layabout but you're managing to do things that take immense self discipline ie writing a book and then a script and then managing to save up for this Hollywood adventure. I doff my hat to you.

Actually, I think the opposite. Professional writers write to get paid. Of course they do it for the art, for the profession, for themselves, but the bottom line is being paid means less stress, better writing, and staying fed.

If he's going to Hollywood, don't look at it like an adventure, look at it like a mission to receive money for his script. Accept nothing less. The adventure is secondary. The journey has been his adventure, writing the script and book has been and adventure, and of course, selling it will be an adventure as well. But getting paid for the script means he's achieved success.

Nope, nothing yet. I literally finished the fourth draft in St Louis airport on my way to LA and I'm now running screenplay reports/stats to take out the last errors. I will copyright the screenplay today and also send it to a professional script reading service who will give me advice on it. That will take about a week. In the mean while I have to work on a 10 second/ 60 second pitch and start contacting people.

I wish I worked harder in Holland in the beginning of the year so I would arrive with a complete script but yeah, that didn't happen.

Neil,

I admire your dedication. Keep going, people are often stop when they are one or two more swings of the hammer from breaking through. I am confident you are not one of those people.

Best of luck!

I've copyrighted my fourth draft today and will send my script to a professional coverage/story note service who will advice me on it.

I would like to hear the opinion of RVFers so members who are interested in proofreading the script (pdf) can PM me. I prefer known members and people who have insights in (screen)writing. A screenplay reads totally different from a normal book so please take this in account. I don't expect all RVF'ers to read this thread so I will contact some members on my own. It takes about two hours to read a script.

I'm NOT fishing for compliments. I want to hear honest criticism regarding the strength of the story, characters, story lines, dialogue, unclear parts, the plot etc etc. I don't expect an essay just write it in your own words.

I hope to find similarities in opinions whether good or bad. Please have an eye out for errors whether grammatical or in sentence structure.

For the people who also read my book, please take in account that this a movie adaptation so it differs from the book. A true book version is unacceptable in Hollywood.

PS - don't read the last page until you're at the end. It will ruin the experience.

Neil I told you before that my ex girlfriend was the creative director at a production company and she is now the personal assistant to one of the biggest directors in Hollywood that currently has a movie making shitloads of money. If you don't send me the script to pass on to her you're an idiot.

This is exactly how I think about it. I'm here to sell my script. I would of course like to get laid but this is of secondary importance. I'm not saying that i'm giving up on it beforehand and I will of course go out and go for it but at worst it would mean a 3 month dry spell. I laugh at that.

I don’t think you’ll be on a long dry spell. While I’m no fan of LA, Hollywood constantly draws in boatloads of attractive European tourists.

There are tons of hot American girls around here too, but be aware that cat-calling is EXTREMELY common on both Hollywood and Sunset, to the point where it can be downright disgraceful. Keep your approaches from being in any way cat-callish. I am not at all saying American girls will ignore you or be unfriendly if you talk to them normally and confidently.

Most European girls you’ll find seem to be with their families, but you can find some excellent opportunities as well. All the famous attractions make it very easy to come up with conversation topics.

I hit up two girls today.

One was an American super-slut blonde at the metro station. I heard her earlier talking about her boyfriend, but I approached her anyway. I didn’t really have to say much before she started asking questions like where I was going, and volunteered her own information as well. It seemed to be out of friendliness, but a nice conversation nonetheless.

The other was an attractive and unusually friendly blonde on Hollywood Blvd. I felt surprised when she was being so receptive, then I detected an accent and she said she was visiting from the Czech Republic. The whole interaction was awesome and refreshing for a male living in Southern California. I felt like a one-night stand could have been a serious possibility, but I was in a situation which I can’t reveal for identification purposes and she was also getting ready to leave California. I would have liked to date this girl.

So you're the one who revealed me!

With all the costume shops on Hollywood Blvd, one could use this as a ploy to pick up chicks while also making a few bucks.

I think you're replying to Don Juan but for the record. I'm only interested in selling the script not in playing the lead. I did write my self a one minute cameo in the script just because I think it would be cool to have the actual guy who the movie about in the movie. Gives people something to talk about.

I take it you play the cool dude from Holland right, who tells Neil about game? [Image: wink.gif]

Perhaps you already know about it, but if anyone's interested, one of the best screenwriting websites around is Wordplay It's a site dedicated to aspiring screenwriters, created by Terry Rossio and Ted Elliot, one of the most successful screenwriting partnerships in Hollywood. They've written many interesting columns, not only about about screenwriting itself but also about the business or professional side of it. John August's site is good too.

Hey,
There are more than enough foreign girls in my hostel. Although I give it a try every now and then, I can't be bothered with picking them up too much. I have to focus on my projet here and write my butt off. I will save most of the gaming for the nights out. Thanks for your reply though.

Yep, I thought a short cameo would be a nice touch. Gets people talking if it's made into an actual movie. + fame game for me of course.
