[Prophylaxis]

So I'm in the process of developing a health app.

Basically the three options I've decided:

• Credit System
• Using Ads (with Premium version Ad-Free)
• Pay for Initial Download
  

I'm leaning toward the credit system with an initial free credit upon download. But I've been told Ads have a greater potential for revenue, but can take a while to build up. Also given the short shelf-life of an app, perhaps it would be better to get the users payment immediately.

Any thoughts?

I was just reading Yaro's site.

Dude bought some code, reskinned it, and put it out. About a G, maybe more in costs.

99 cents for the app. Makes $ 70.00.

Switches to freemium, gets thousands of dl's, and monetizes with ads or letting ppl pay for additional levels of his game.

Makes thousands. Google Yaro Starak, and it's the most recent podcast.

WIA is on the money, give it away and load it up with ads.

99 cent model:
You make 70 cents after Apple fees and likely will not many anymore money unless you upsell them on future apps. Most people will avoid paying for apps unless it is amazing.

Freemium model:
0 earned upfront but if your app is popular people will use it everyday, even with a 1% or 2% CTR you will earn that 70 cents after only a few clicks. Instead of earning just once you have a nice little passive income and you can always upsell them on a premium version and make even more money.

If I were to opt for ads and the freemium model, would I have to generate a large user database first, with plenty of downloads, before I implement the ads? Or would I approach ad companies from the start?
