I agree with you about the differences between Cali and Bogota, that's why I"m still on the fence about where I"m going spend most of my time when I go back to Colombia. So what did you do in Cali, where did you spend most of your time, any tips for night life?
When I was there, I stayed right next to Chipichape mall for a week and partied a few times in Menga, then I relocated over to San Antonio which was a nice spot but a bit over run with backpackers. I partied in Parque del Perro one night and that seemed like a cool spot to check out again, I wasn't too crazy over Menga but it was a decent spot to take a girl out to drink and dance. I didn't end up partying in la Sexta as my trusted buddy Wedo told me its a bit sketchy there and I trust his word, we did hang out a few times in Grenada at that high end hotel bar with the restaurant on top, a bit over priced and Grenada didn't seem like it was all that great to party until the wee hours.
I didn't make it down to the south side of Cali but apparently there's a nice mall there and some decent night life, did you end up there at all?

I was going to salsa nights at Tin Tin Deo. that was pretty cool and I was also hanging around Granada, lots of bars and pubs (around Burbon street pub).
As usual in Cali, the easiest way is to go out at night with girls that you met before. You can also meet girls quite easily through couchsurfing and hang out with their friends

I was almost everyday in Chipichape. I got some pretty girls from daygaming there and I was going to the bodytech gym
>>and partied a few times in Menga,
I went to Menga a couple of times with a friend but it was a waste of time cause there were only couples or big groups of friends seated. Some clubs even refused to let us in because we were not accompanied by 2 girls.
On a side note, we went to some pool clubs (billiards) for fun, kind of brothels where people play pool and all girls are butt naked (some extremely sexy). Fun to play pool there...

Granada is walking distance from la Sexta and I partied a lot in La Sexta. There are very cool bars/restaurants with dance floors to go with a girl, sit and drink and dance salsa. Nobody will bother you. Walking late at night in the street can be a bit sketchy but I did it many many times without problems and you can always take a cab (the cheapest taxis on earth, with Romania... except hundred times more polite and friendly than Romanian taxi drivers

Yep in Ciudad Jardin and around there, there are 3 good malls, It is richer and more European than the rest of Cali. I had a rich hot girlfriend there and I stayed at her place in a gated neighborhood for a few weeks when her parents were traveling.
Cali is a weird memory for me, it is quite easy to live there and the climate is cool. There are many things to do and I like the town and people much more than in Medellin. But at the end of my 3 months there, I felt like I had never really had an interesting encounter with anyone... Very much like I feel in the DR. I guess this superficial (drug money) culture is alien to me and I felt very empty after 3 months there. I couldn't wait to get out.
For some guys it can be a deadly trap, especially with the best local flour at 5 USD a gram...
Whereas in Bogotá, Brazil, and Eastern Europe, I connect with people on a much deeper and satisfying level. Yet I imagine some people can be in love with Cali, especially if you're from a latino culture.
