Vietnam - Nha Trang - Mini Report

I was only there for 5 days total, but it was probably enough to have seen most of it and experienced what it has to offer. For those who dont know, its a small resort town about an hours flight from Saigon. Its touted for its beaches, water activities and two golf courses.

If I can use one word to describe the place, it would be "underwhelmed".

Firstly, the areas where you will find yourself spending time are rather small. There are a ton of bars and restaurants, but no major night clubs or activity. There were times when the streets were dead, and this is meant to be high season. There really is little going on, and the best way to explain it would be to say that it really is a poor mans Thailand. If bars and cheap, nameless restaurants are your thing, you will have it covered in a few days.

The beach is nothing special at all and is rather crap. Vinpearl, a major resort you can only get to by cable car or boat has better beaches, but its mostly resort guests and people chasing the free amusement park that are there.

One thing that struck me as odd was the number of Russians who were holidaying there. I am talking fucktons, to the point that I felt like I was in Siberia at times. Most of the menus are in Russian before they are in English, and there are many places that are geared towards Russians too. Even the TV channels in the hotel have more Russian channels than English.

Now you would think this is a good thing, but I have no idea where the hell these Russians came from. It has to be the ugliest collection of people I have ever seen. The vast majority of them are families or couples, but even the few single women around were very, very average. By Russian standards, they were downright nasty for the most part, and if anyone has been to Nha Trang I will say that its not a reflection on the average Russian woman at all.

Maybe they are advertising it in really poor areas or its a budget holiday for them of some sort, but it was dire at times. Fat, miserable fucking village trash everywhere, with manners to boot. I think the lot of them came from Chernobyl, and these were the ones staying the 4 star hotels.

The Viet women are sexy as fuck at times, but language was a huge issue for me. Not to mention my hotel policy was clear that marriage certificates are required, so you bring in a Viet girl and they are clearly trying to make sure she is not a hooker. Im not sure if this is policy everywhere, but I was told its pretty common for most of the hotels who are clearly beating off sex tourists. So throw in what is widely known as a conservative culture, and you would need to be there a while before you are lash one or two.

Which leaves backpackers, and quite honestly I would rather masturbate in the lobby of my hotel at 10:00AM as everyone is checking out than stick my dick in another one of them.

So all up, Ill just say that its a shit hole that offers next to nothing. If you want a quiet beach holiday, there are tons of places that are better and easier to get to. If you want to take a chick somewhere, this is not the place to be going either, its bargain basement level shit. It also seems to have a "vibrant expat community", ie: retired westerners chasing local whores and spending their days in bars with all the other winners.

As for women? Waste of time unless you are chasing backpackers or spend a long time there chasing local women, in which case you are better off in Hanoi or Saigon to be honest.

All up, the place has potential, but it needs a solid 15 years or so before its going to rival the twenty million other resort towns that leave this crap hole in the dust.

"...fat miserable village trash from Chernobyl".

Hahah... that paints a picture.

Interesting report. I personally loved Saigon, woulda liked to have got out to Nha Trang. Did you try any pipelining?

Nah not at all. I was with friends, so would have been chasing SNL's for the most part. Maybe results will be better if you pipeline, and given language issues its not a bad idea for anyone headed out there I think.

In fact, unless you have a lot of time there or speak Vietnamese, its probably a requirement if you dont want to rely on luck.

Interesting. I've recently been to a beach resort called Phan ThietMiu Ne and that was stacked full of ugly Russians too. The beach is nothing to write home about.

Russians run pretty deep all over Vietnam. Maybe it's some old communist connection, maybe there is a cheap flight or maybe they don't have to pay for visas. I wasn't really a fan of Nha Trang and found that the ordinary local women remained pretty segregated from the tourists, they even swam further down the beach.

If you're still in Vietnam, I liked Mui Ne. You're going to run into tons of Russians, but there seemed to be more places to go out to.

It's the cheap flights: they're all over Thailand too.

I just stayed in Hanoi and Halong Bay. I was impressed by Hanoi. It had a very Oriental feel to it. Not really modern. Good, cheap food.

I could foresee myself maintaining an apartment there and swinging in often. Local girls were surprisingly pretty. A lot of them had nice racks.

Yeah man. If I make it back to Asia, Vietnam is a priority. I thought Saigon was great.... such a nice change from BKK at the time. I found I vibed with the people much better too. Really digged them. I could live there... if/when I get my income back on track, I might just do that.

Wow.. this is a real eye-opener. I've heard so many awesome things about Nha Trang from typical European tourists, never was really that interested but thought it would have been more interesting than what you described. I may just have to stick to Da Nang [Image: tongue.gif]

What you say here is also my concern about SE Asia in general. Do Bangkok or Saigon not have similar problems? Are they interesting cities with something to offer beyond hookers and retired expats or fat expats/strip clubs/etc.

Its not in your face in Saigon and Hanoi. There are no strip clubs or red light districts, although you do see massage parlors around which I suspect are quite often knock shops. Not always though, as genuine massage in SE Asia is as common as a coffee shop in Paris. There are hookers around and from what I have seen most are freelancers. The hotel policy is based on local law I believe, which just goes to show how conservative a place it actually is.

The sexpats seem to be retired guys taking advantage of the cheap prices, although I suspect many are on Visa runs from neighboring countries too. For what its worth, no matter where you go, these guys keep to themselves and they tend to congregate in the same spots, so you just avoid those venues and areas after a while if its not your thing.

I guess it depends on your intentions with your trips and how long you want to go for. I would not be picking Vietnam as a destination to live or expat long term, but it might be interesting to spend a month or two there if you can sort the visa issue out. If its your first trip to SE Asia, there are better and easier options I think.

First of all Thailand and Vietnam are very different. Vietnam is a socialist country and has a very different vibe. There are tons of interesting places to visit in SE Asia, just don't waste your time with Vietnam. If you haven't been in SEA then you should go there ASAP, you will not regret it.

Here is my ranking of the SE Asian countries:

1. Thailand. NUMBER ONE PLACE ON EARTH (You cannot fail) best places are Bangkok and Pattaya. Time spent here is about 1 year. Thais banged: 70ish.

2. Philippines. Very easy to get laid, they love "Americano". Try Manila and Sabang Beach. Avoid Boracay unless you like to bang hipster traveller fatty western chicks. Time spent here is around 4 weeks. Filipinas banged: 10-15.

3. Indonesia: Sumatra, Bali, and Java. Muslim country, not easy to get laid but possible (Bali is different). Very interesting for travelling though. Jakarta has extremely good nightlife and 20 % non muslim. Time spent here is about 5 weeks, chicks banged 1.

4. Cambodia. Piss poor country, almost disgusting. I was in Phnom Penh and Sihanouville. Its okay. Cheap. Night life is so so. You will get laid, but women are kind of ugly. Time spent 2 weeks. Chick banged 3.

5. Vietnam. Crap crap crap. Time 2 weeks. Chicks banged 2.

6. Laos. Poor. Time 3 days. ZERO.

7. Malaysia. Muslim country. 5 days. ZERO.

8. Singapore. Expensive western country. 2 days. ZERO.

As you can see Vietnam did not do too well on my list [Image: smile.gif]

Any trip to SE Asia should be focused on Thailand and Philippines, perhaps even Indonesia if you enjoy wilderness!

Damn sheriff, it's depressing to find out that banging Indonesian chicks is practically just as hard as Malaysia. I had no idea they were even that muslim. Ugh

I completely disagree about Indonesia, in Jakarta at least. The middle and upper class girls are pretty sexually liberal and not very religious.

I can't have sex with your personality, and I can't put my penis in your college degree, and I can't shove my fist in your childhood dreams, so why are you sharing all this information with me?

There are parts of Indonesia that could be considered easier to get a one-night stand. The places that come to mind are Bali (Hindu), Jakarta (20 % non-muslim + big city) and Lake Toba (Non-religious/christian). You will get attention and perhaps even a date, but it will take some serious game and convincing to get her to give it up.

That being said, banging Indonesian chicks outside of Indonesia has never been an issue though. I suppose that the social stigma is big in Indonesia but when outside they are more open to western men.

I have been to Saigon and Nha Thrang and I disagree with you. Saigon has got a few nice Pubs and Clubs and the girls are absolute beautiful. Nha Thrang beaches are nice .I rent a MB and travel up and down the coast and saw some nice spots. There were a few Russians and they stick to themselves and are pretty well behaved. It all depends who's eyes you looking through. The local Vietnamese are pretty poor but like every country you have your good and bad. You go to Bali and it is invaded by drunk and bogan Australians, that does not mean all Australians are bad. So is Thailand also attracting a lot of scumbags .Like I said it depends what you looking for? I'm not young anymore and had a fair share of women in their 30's in Vietnam without any expectations .You treat the people with respect and you will go a far way.I will definitely go again . Some people go to Asia to exploit the local girls. If you treat them with respect then you can expect the same and also get the extras. Don't think your a god for any women to open her legs for you. Why travel to other countries for that if you can find it in your own backyard .

Anyone been to Nha Trang recently? I've just booked a trip. A banned forum member went last year and loved it. He went only for the Russians. The quality of Russians is that bad?

Would Vietnam veterans recommend I spend a few days in Da Nang, Saigon, or elsewhere in Vietnam? What is the highest-class resort town that Russians go to in Vietnam?

Russians go to all beach cities in Vietnam, but increasingly so do Chinese and Koreans.

Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag. We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language. And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people.

Vietnam has a conservative culture. If you want to bang Vietnamese hotties, I would recommend going to the places where Vietnamese girls go to get buck wild away from their families. Kuala Lumpur has a fair number of non-pro viet hotties trying to make it in the big cities. To be more accurate, the hottest girl in each village decides she's going to "make it big in KL" and then marry some rich foreign businessman (KL is the NY of SEA). This usually lasts about a year before she ends up at some hooker bar she doesn't tell her family about. So in addition to the large numbers of Viet pros, there is a significant Viet civilian scene of girls that are EAGER to meet a rich foreign guy that will change her life. KL doesn't get a lot of love on this forum, but it's just not a place you can do internet research on and kick ass in 5 days. It's in an Islamic country and almost everything fun or cool is hidden and tucked away. You're going to have to befriend local dudes (cool local dudes) and get wired into the scene, or you're never even going to find the sweet spots.

Well, I'm rolling the dice a bit. I see already there are plenty of Russians on tinder in Nha Trang (perhaps 20-30%). I'll wait until I get on the ground, obviously, before I plot a move. Of course, since I'm escaping the Northern European winter, the sun alone is reason enough to go.

OP is on point. I was there 2 weeks ago. It's nothing special at all. The beaches are dirty and don't have any waves. A lot of Russians as mentioned, but most of them are with family. Then, the ones with friends were of seemingly low quality though I did spot a few gems. All up you're better off elsewhere.

The other big money question is, given what are probably actually middle-class and upper middle-class Russians from Siberia in Nha Trang, is how good is your Russian? I would guess most of these people probably do not speak much English.

Was travelling with a girl so no. Approaches would seem quite natural in such a relaxed place where everyone is holidaying. I'm just saying that compared to other resort towns, Nha Trang is lacking in many ways. No idea on the club scene either.
