Real Gap internships

Anybody ever used them?

I think this is a good way for new graduates to gain professional work experience. I am seriously considering taking an internship in China if i dont get that canadian work visa. Also, i want to immerse in chinese and China's culture, i think this will be a good opportunity for me to accomplish this.

Any thoughts on taking these internships?[/align]

Tough call. For me, I couldn't imagine paying to intern somewhere where they are pretty vague on what you are doing and what you are getting out of it. It is seems pretty pricey. But I dont think going to China to get into some business is a bad idea, you could also search online more for more companies directly, or network once you are there with a visa in hand. I would also see if you could find some people via searching or ask the company for references of people who have done it. 5k to pour some guys coffee 5,000 miles away seems like a gamble.

Met a guy in Beijing who was doing one of these although I am not sure if it was through the organization you linked or a different one. He was assigned to a charity rather than an actual business. He said he didnt do much at work and had a ton of free time. At first he used it to study Chinese but then started partying more and studying Chinese less... My impression was it was one of things where it is up to you to make the most out of it, otherwise you end up doing nothing or busy work.

Sorry I can't be much more helpful as I didn't talk to the dude very long.
