Unable to dual boot on Toshiba Satellite L855

I created an additional partition on my drive to install Windows 7. My laptop (64 bit) comes pre-installed with Windows 8 with the recovery partition in case I need to reformat the drive.

I need to run with Windows 7 in order to do this particular course that I am undertaking but everytime I put the disk in it won't run.
I tried to set the boot order to start the boot from the dvd drive (where I have put the Windows 7 disk) and it won't work.

The disk works on my other laptop. Has Toshiba locked my laptop from other operating systems?

Any suggestions?

Try holding F8 as you turn it on. That should let you run safe mode.

If you're going to try, go all the way. There is no other feeling like that. You will be alone with the gods, and the nights will flame with fire. You will ride life straight to perfect laughter. It's the only good fight there is.

Not sure what to do to be honest. Is there anything preventing you from running windows 7 in a virtual machine on the windows 8 partition? I see no reason why that wouldn't work for basic applications (definitely not video games and shit but you get the gist).

This could be a semi-complicated issue. I have encountered a similar issue in the past where I had a Win 7 installation and installed Win 8 on a different disk then was unable to boot into Win 7 because installing Win 8 overwrote the Win 7 boot loader.

I suspect the issue is with your MBR (master boot record). If your Win 7 partition is not listed there, you will not be able to boot from there. It has nothing to do with Toshiba.

Check out this for starters: http://www.digitaltrends.com/computing/h...windows-8/

Also do more searching on Google for dual booting windows 7 and 8.

It's not running the install from the Windows 7 disk that I have. Windows 8 is the main OS, I am trying to run the install and then point it to the spare partition I created.
It errors when I run the setup.exe from within Windows 8 and when I try and boot from the disk, it doesn't run [Image: sad.gif]
