Budapest, Hungary Data Sheet
Getting here
Not too long ago the hungarian national airline went bankrupt, but there are still daily flight from all over Europe.
Delta operates a non-stop flight between New York and Budapest
Weather
Usual 4 seasons setting. Best time to come is around April, May. Summer can be uncomfortably hot, winter is long and cold. We don’t get too much sunshine during the winter months, which can be depressing.
Getting around
The city has 3 metro lines, the fourth one has been under construction for a very long time.
Most convenient is to use the yellow trams. Main lines are marked with 4 and 6. They cross the city (starting from the Buda part all the way through Pest, then back to Buda).
Left Part of the city is Buda, right part is Pest. The city is divided by the river Danube.
Money
Currency is hungarian forints. conversion is the following:
1EUR = 283 HUF
1USD = 219 HUF
ATM’s are all around the city, no problem getting money anytime, anywhere.
Accommodation
Safest bet is airbnb.com or couchsurfing. You can search for apartements in google You’ll see hits like http://www.budapestrent.com/. Honestyl I can’t say anything about quality, as I have never needed those sites, because I live there.
Safety
Apart from pickpockets, not an issue. There are some parts of the 8th and 10th district, you should not be going to. This parts are rather far from the main areas of the city.
Be aware of taxidrivers scamming you. Always ask for prices first.
Food
Food is excellent. You can find any type of cousine here. Just to name a few.

Bock Bisztró http://www.bockbisztro.hu/

Things to do
You can visit many museums, parks, and do sightseeing. There is a lot to see. I can expand this part of the datasheet more, if requested.
Vibe
Overall the city is nice. For you you have been to Prague will find the architecture quite similar. Only difference is that here they are less taken care of.
Hungarian people used to be among the warmest, but things changed a little bit, the struggles of the last couple decades made the population somehow bitter, and more closed than they used to be.
Cost of living
Compared to western european and american salaries, it is cheap. Hungarians complain about steep prices all the time, but that’s because the average income even in the capital is not more than 700 USD.
Some prices will surprise you. Gas costs double than in the US.
The girls
I’m biassed, but I’ll say one of the most beautiful you can find. I would say, most of them are open to meeting foreigners.
Make sure to check out the party photos of the clubs listed below.
Clubs
Depending on what your taste is you can find a variety of clubs.
I would suggest to hit up Tomppa street and Ráday street for bar hopping. The latter is a little bit expensive though.
Another nice part of the town is around Oktogon quare. Right nex to it you can find Liszt Ferenc square with some restaurants and bars. Ont he other side of the avenue, there is a street called Nagymező, full of clubs and bars. Make sure you avoid the strip clubs at all cost, they are going to rip you off like never. Expect to pay 50 USD for the first small bottle of Heineken. Girls there are not worth it either.
Three clubs that are known for being full of foreign friendly girls are the following.
Instant (on Nagymező Street) http://instant.co.hu/
Szimpla kert http://www.szimpla.hu/
Morrisons 2 http://morrisons.hu/morrisons_music_pub2/
Check out the gallery.
If you are not into this kind of set up head to Hajógyári Island. It is full of clubs (Bed Beach, Pink, Coronita), but more like with techno type of music. Unfortunately the website of the island is useless.
Some of the nicest clubs:
http://www.peachesandcream.hu/index-hu.php
Ötkert (website is out of use now)
Creol http://www.creolbar.hu/
Budapest Sky Bar
If you are into wines, make sure to check out http://divinoborbar.hu/ Nice place, with nice wines and girls.
Entrance ranges from 5-10 USD in all of the places.
Enjoy….
