Are video games a loser habit?

Video games are far too addicting. Take it from someone who use to compete in Halo its not worth it. A couple guys at the top have good lives from it. But your chances are literally better of being a professional athlete than being a top gamer in Halo, CS, Star Craft, WoW, LoL simply because the pool of people is so much larger that are truly aspiring and putting in the time for that.

There's little money, little social proof, and it leads to very unusual hours which is not beneficial in any way.

If your going to play, play occasionally, set out 1 hour a day maximum to play. They can be so addicting. Have I made some in real life friends from gaming yes. But, I could have made far more in real life friends if I wasn't playing so many video games as a young kid between 13 and 18. Take this from someone whose been #1 in the world on XBL in multiple games. Getting tons of props from other gamers may feel good and give you tons of confidence as a youth but it doesn't carry over to the real world very well. Granted I haven't been really hardcore into gaming in more than 5 years so maybe some things have changed.

On a couple occasions I even played at house parties after tons of dudes literally begging to see me play. While that gets tons of props from guys it certainly will not help you on the girl frontier.

As a side note, despite my former love of video games I do very well on a professional basis, social basis and with women now. I went from being a lousy student who did lousy with chicks to being bilingual, with a 6 + figure salary guaranteed upon graduation and have had harems with girls I could've only dreamed of just 5 or 6 years ago.

Like with anything in life as long as you are enjoying it and don't get too engrossed in one or the other it's fine to indulge. Just don't fool yourself, only you truly know and can control your own behavior. If you think you might have a problem, you probably do. If you're like me and work out, still get laid multiple times a week, hold a steady job, and still have a decent social life you're good to go playing some video games here and there. The point with any escape is to RELAX or have fun SOME of the time, not be addicted and spend your every free waking hour on it.

Know your enemy and know yourself, find naught in fear for 100 battles. Know yourself but not your enemy, find level of loss and victory. Know thy enemy but not yourself, wallow in defeat every time.

Are video games a loser habit?

My wife is currently playing One Piece on her gameboy advanced. She's been playing it solid for almost 7 hours. I'm sitting here beside my friend and his wife playing DOTA...

So... does this make us all losers? My wife is wearing a short skirt, pantyhose, kneehigh hooker boots a small sweater and has long black hair. She's Chinese right... shes dressed like those Japanese set of twins from Austin Powers (showed her their hairstyle). I guess we could be improving our lives instead but I already fucked her today and later we are all going out for pizza. On friday I played Phantasy Star II on my psp at work for about 5 hours, made $83 bucks just sitting there building levels.

Hate to brag but yeah, if you like games then find a way to gamengineer your life so you can have hot broads, money and still do what you love. I also make games in my spare time for ESL.

This would be a match made in heaven if I like anime cause my wife loves it. I don't. [Image: biggrin.gif]

(Pics or it didnt happen? You can look up prior threads and ask one of the guys who came and met me.)

I would also like to address something. People who play video games seem to develop a bit of common sense that people who don't play seem not to have. For instance: I play alot of RPGs and I know that if I save my money, I can level up and buy better equipment to make more money with. I know not to waste my items or time on useless things like gambling or dancing in the tavern... also chatting with random people usually yields very few results. Instead I focus on my goals at hand and budget to complete them. People develop and learn the more gaming they do... is it any conisidence that my friend and I are both excellent with money?

Then there are lots of people I know who don't game. Instead they spend their waking hours bored randomly surfing the net. Their weekends are spent half awake watching movies they aren't really interested in and drinking booze and doing drugs with women they really have no connection to. They spend alot of extra time at the gym bulking up...for what? I don't know. They usually have shite time/money management skills and are frequently late for work or drunk. Alot of these people cheat on the wives/husbands because the only thing they can think to fill their days with are sex and food. I know LOADS of people like this.

There are no handouts in games, all successes you must create YOURSELF. Games teach lots of good stuff...

Other things you gain from playing games:
1. Survival Skills
2. Mapmaking and pathfinding skills
3. Crafting techniques
4. Architectural and spatial knowledge
5. Creativity
6. Social and Lifestyle skills
7. How to make friends and treat others with respect
8. How to kill rats [Image: wink.gif]
9. How to entertain yourself
10. Stuff to do with friends that doesn't require illegal substances or money
11. Cheap entertainment
12. Women (yes you can meet women with games)
13. Money Management
14. Geography
15. Goal setting and planning
16. North American values and Common sense (doesn't exist in all cultures)

Gaming also creates common ground and segueys into other hobbies quite easily. People who game can usually hold up an argument or discussion quite well. I can simpy throw out a hypothetical situation such as bobafett vs the predator and boom.... endless hours of discussion. People who don't game are kind of boring. I chat for a living so this is my area of expertise.

Why all the hate? If you do too much, yeah it is a loser habit, but so is anything.

Hell, I got my first internship with a video game market research company. I killed the interview because i knew both the business and the industry end.

I don't like the new games on new systems (Halo, Call of Duty, etc)...too much focus on making games real and they end up being boring.

Then there are computer games like Warcraft which are basically relegated to nerds.

I'll take Mike Tyson's Punch Out on the original nintendo or Street Fighter 2 on the SNES over anything new.
