Winter Music Conference in Miami

Yeah Memorial Day. It's absolutely terrible. The years past, it was the most ignorant scum that came from all parts of the country. There was almost always a shooting or stabbing. Then they have the nerve to say the beach officials are racist (Actually, they kind of are, but this isn't a good example). Very rarely are there shootings in Miami Beach, but this weekend, you can count on it. I wonder how it's going to be this year. Last year, not even half the people showed up, and the ones that did were a little more laid back and cool, since they charged through the roof prices on hotels. The beach looked like a prison. There were portable police watch towers all over the streets, and helicopters flying around all day and night with spot lights. Shit was crazy. They made it so nobody wanted to be there. Here's a document the police sent out to all the local businesses for that weekend, I had to take a screen shot of it, shit's crazy.

Back from MIA...I was worried about the music conference but turned out to a non factor. A lot of the craziness takes place downtown...
Talent levels may have been highest I've seen in the city
Couldn't go crazy as I had some biz to do but checked out:
Shore day party sunday-solid as usual
Tantra (española and pennsylvania): good crowd, better considering it was a monday. layout of the place is wack though
FDR @ the delano: so so, music was killing me again
Restos to check : Catch @ the james, Dolce @ the gael hotel

^ last night at FDR. It was $50 entry or bottle service. I guess WMC did affect my trip as the music was very electronic and not my thing.

Food at Dolce is excellent. Ive been there a number of times now and posting up at the bar is a decent move. Struck up a convo with 2 girls next to me drinking johnny blue and we rolled together to Segafredo on Lincoln Rd. after (friday). The same hotel also has 'the rec room' which you can enter on the side and is worth a look. Will Smith was in the joint last month.

First time at Catch last night-tapas with a seafood emphasis of course. Recommended. Almost got whiplash from all the talent walking in the door. Most were with guys however.

Made it to Hyde Bar @ SLS hotel last month-great spot. Will try to stick to open air joints like this moving forward. Nightclubs can't compare.

Classic. I just missed you last night.

I did a quick lap thru the Delano, but didn't stick around for FDR. Was there girls there?

What time did you go?

Yeah, I got Rec Room on lock.

I like the cocktail bar in The Gale as well. I am sure you saw it, it is right inside from Dolce.

Got that place on Lock too. Went opening night.

Was it crowded on a Wed night?

I have been there a few times on Wed, but it wasn't too crowded. But it is WMC and spring break now so all bets are off.

I like that spot, I have swooped out of there mass amounts.

Only problem is there are two main doorguys and one of them hates me.

Real player hater. The other cat is super cool though.

Nice man, glad you had a good time. As far as entry for FDR went, they probably jacked the price up for WMC no? I never got a chance to check out SLS, it's pretty legit huh?

SLS is a Sam Nazarian project. Pretty legit and I am somewhat critical of his joints.

(But the more I think about it, maybe his joints only suck because they are in Los Angeles? Because he opens one in Miami and it is really dope. So I think it is just city dependent.)

I have swooped out of that spot a bunch.

I probably should go on more on weekends, because I usually land clean shots there.

InternationPlayboy, depending on when you left Miami, I bet a lot of these spots are new for you like Catch, Rec Room, SLS, and The Gale.

Nice, I'm definitely going have to have to check some of these spots out when I go back. I was in town for a couple months after SLS opened, I never checked it out though cause I was always busy working or had something else going on. I hear good things though. The others I don't recognize, minus The Gale, it sounds familiar but I don't think I checked it out. I sure did beat down Miami a lot when I was there, but now that I'm gone I kind of miss the place. I also started to like it much more the more I lived there, but I didn't post much at that time.

Yo G, you ever check out the Russian and Turkish Bath House on 54th and Collins? It's not the most upscale facility, but it's legit! They have a ton of features there. I used to love burning a J on the beach and posting up and just unwinding there after a long 70 work week. As far as the beach goes (Actual beach, not Miami Beach), when I'm just looking to chill out, I prefer North Beach over South Beach all day. But that could also just be because I lived there and worked in the heart of South Beach.

@G I rolled into FDR at 1am. There were few open targets. The layout isn't bad so id be open to checking it another night.

Ya, catch was busy, but the server mentioned it was out of ordinary 2nd to all the things going on in Miami last week...

another item I forgot to mention...while toronto has recently been (deservedly) getting bashed, one thing right here are strip joints. went to tootsies which was billed as 'miami's best' and found it to be a stale corporate establishment. sort of like a big hooters...

That looks crazy. And hellish at the same time. Raves really went downhill.

The cool thing is it is in the middle of Miami.

That could never happen in a California city even for 10 minutes.

Let alone 2 weeks.

That makes sense.
