I'm getting a license. And a bike next spring. (I'll probably go for something like Albertron's GSX-R 600. Got interested after driving around with a scooter for a bit, now I want the real thing.)

Bike owners: How much maintenance do you have to do on your bikes? And I suppose for winter it's a good idea to rent a garage somewhere to keep the ride in good shape? Would you buy a used bike? If yes, how old maximum? How many km down? (or miles [Image: smile.gif])

Anyone here build their own choppers? I'd like to build my own some day, but the enormity of the task is a little overwhelming. I'm not naturally mechanically inclined, but can follow step by step instructions well. I know you can buy kit bikes that have instructions and everything you need, but these typically run $15k+. I'm more inspired by guys that buy something unique off craigslist and turn it into something awesome. Any suggestions on resources/tutorials to get started?

Check out the magazine Iron and Air. It's more vintage/cafe racer inspired but they have some great bikes.

Hey everyone, just adding my 2 cents on motorcycles. I'm new in here, mostly reading learning reading. About the lifestyle. I don't know much about girls, so please forgive my inaccuracy in terms of approaching or labeling. This is the first thread I think I can actually contribute something. Here goes:

As pointed out by lots of guys before, motorcycles definitely up your game. I rode about 10-14 different bikes in my "career". Some I sold, some got trashed, some just were to unreliable. I never really focused on getting laid, but the experience definitely leads to the conclusion, that for getting laid a bike does not have to be new or powerful. It has to look aggressive or bulky. So sort of the extension of your body. What I mean is, that normally there's nothing worse than self proclaimed "tuning" guys who only change some visible parts and don't do anything about engine, suspension etc. But when it comes to girls, buying a 250ccm for 2K and investing 500 dollar in tasteful! visible parts or paint beats buying a 500ccm or larger for 3-5K by lengths.

Girls love motorcycles for four factors:

1. Image. (mostly same as guys, born-to-be-wild, ride free lalala)
2. Self-image (being visible to everyone, girls love to show off and where better show off than with a cool dude on a nice machine between your legs. beats any car by lengths for her purpose of visibility)
3. adrenaline (this is for the girls who really are, at least a little bit, crazy and not just for the meek girls who want to play dirty once in a lifetime)
4. vibrations (this, most girls don't know about, they'll notice though)

To sum that up, I would strongly advise against motocross or enduros on the street. Fun as they are, they seem misplaced and don't work too well with the ladies. Maybe someone will strongly disagree, I'd be curious. Second, with aggressive or bulky looking streetfighters / supersports you can not go wrong at all. Choppers are tricky. Again they have to look aggressive, not like a old man bike (gold-wing, electra glide etc...that's only if you're into MILF's with fading tattoos). These need some more CCM though. Why? Because you don't know if a lady is into speed or not. And even a 500-600 ccm chopper just doesn't have the torque of the sports machines. Nothing beats having a girl on an at least 750-800ccm chopper. Mostly you don't leave the city anyways, you don't want to scare her or have strong wind. So these have enough "punch" up to 60-70 mph. That's enough for the city, at least here in Bulgaria where I live. In Germany mosdef, you're already leaving the cop-friendly zone. There is one big advantage though for all choppers: vibrations. The 2 cylinder gets 80-90% of the girls wet as hell. Some of my female friends admitted it right after the ride, some girls I was just dating or hooking up you could see their blushing faces. And two bulgarian ladies in miniskirt actually got so wet, they left little stains of juice on the rear leather. If you point that out you'll get them embarassed, you can then just take your index finger, wipe over, have a taste and say whatever funny shit is on your mind. You have her already because you took the emberassment away from her and spun the sexual tension in a positive way. So she's wet, she's laughing and she was holding you tight for the last 15-20 minutes to not fall off: it's actually pretty hard to mess that up!

So much to what to buy, it leaves you a HUGE selection of bikes. Some where asking about riding in the heat. I worked as a motorcycle tour guide in about 12 US states and in Europe. There is hot and hot. If you have to ride in the desert, like Arizona, Nevada or the eastern parts of California, you need something with long sleeves. First to protect your skin, second you loose to much moisture, third you can get excessive windburn which is no fun at all. So much for the real heat, but I think what most people ask is what to chose for commuting or dating chicks in a hot area, Miami came up, Panama etc.

Leather is not your best friend in that case. I'm not saying there are no decent leather jackets, but you'll always sweat like a mofo, except you're going fast for a long time or only for short rides. The perfect solution for these areas or seasons are short sleeve protector Jackets. I for myself chose the Hammer Jacket from IXS. My favorite brand, very underrated. Swiss quality for a very decent prise. These give you more protection than any leather jacket. Plus you look like a fucking warrior ready to swing a battle axe. you can accentuate the body armor and wear it on top, just keeping it on in a cafe if you're there for a quick drink. Ladies notice, way better than a helmet. Or you wear a nice (ripped apart?) XL shirt on top, that's your decision. Again in desert, you wear one of these and a longsleeve on top. It will surprise you how well you can ride and cover distance, never forget to overhydrate though.

For the in between season, where it gets chill in the morning and night, I wear a long sleeve protector jacket. O'Neal Wave Jacket in that case. This is no promotion from my side, just wear whatever you want. Dainese also makes killer gear, but very overpriced to my mind.

Another thing about Bikers. There is lots of fun to be had with bikers, they're mostly laid back. Not giving a shit about your physical wellbeing attracts a certain crew. That said, I wouldn't dismiss game in biker bars. Even if you don't get laid you definitely hear the best stories and find guys who are serious with their drinking habits. The point is a. which bars and (most important) b. what type of person you are. The REAL biker bars you don't want to go to. Because only mostly gang-affiliated guys hang out there, looking for trouble. And the chicks there are either old and fugly or belong (sometimes literally) to one of the dudes. These are often clubhouses more or less with a liquor license for money laundry and giving it a "legit" appearance. At least in Germany, Bulgaria and in those party of the US I rode. In the other European countries I only had tours for work, never hung out in bars. In a laid back biker bar though you still have similar looking guys but who're in it for the fun and riding. In there you can have game, but you're bike doesn't get you anywhere, it's parked outside. I always had a good time there, also with some chicks, but for two simple reasons: 1. I'm not a typical biker, I do a PhD in politics. Which for most chicks in there would be the same as if I'd say I'm a astronaut. That doesn't make me more attractive though, for most girls even less (dr. smartypants) but you got their interest and attention to work with already. 2. I don't have any tattoo (yet). That by itself gives you an outstanding look. So if you're visibly tattooed and laid back and have a "cool" job ... forget about biker bars. Except you want to get hammered with like-minded people or you just really want the fiercest competition as kind of a professional challenge. Not my thing, but whatever floats your boat!

Hope that was helpful, enjoy the ride.

Most guys who ride motorcycles and actually enjoy riding don't think too highly of those who get bikes just to get girls. It's kinda lame, or in, your guys terms "beta" lol sorry new to the forum just catching on to the lingo. Anyhow, its kinda lame to drop 5k on a bike and then gear and stuff on top of it just to try to fit some image.

Ride because you enjoy riding or don't ride at all.

I agree though, an added benefit is chicks dig bikes. I can't tell you how many chicks have started convos with me at the gas station, heck even hopped on my bike at a light if riding through a nightlife district in Chicago or something like that.

I ride a Suzuki Intruder VS 800 but planning on picking up a Triumph Scramber or Bonneville.

I like to pick up girls for the first date on my motorcycle without telling them that I'll be on my bike. They're usually a little surprised and it makes their pussy wet. Especially younger girls.

The Motorcycle Thread

It isn't beta at all to start riding a motorcycle for chicks. 99% of the guys start loving it and then ride for the sake of riding and never stop. Same with working out in the gym! Real beta is belonging to this 1% who hate riding and just doing it for the girl, as is hating to go to the gym everyday and thus wasting 2 hours of your life every day. Instead of finding another sport or just adjusting your diet and do no sport at all.

Got a question for the US riders. I always got my rental for free from my job and just got a couple of extra days if I wanted to stay longer. This time I want to do a vacation and rent a bike as cheap as possible. I checked out rideshare sites like relayrides (which also bought wheelz.com now) and they don't have motorcycles. I found some at justshareit but for way too steep prices, you could just go to a commercial rental.

How would you guys approach this, if you want a bike for lets say three weeks? with an average price of over 100$ a day I'm for sure not putting down 2 grand for a bike, might as well buy an old shitty bike then. Is there an option of signing a release form for the owner freeing him of responsibility in case of damage? That way I could just talk to people who want to sell on craigslist, tell them to wait 3 weeks, collect my cash and then sell it with a couple of extra miles. Any other idea is appreciated !

Anyone have a opinion on the cafe racer style motorcycles? Ran into this one while browsing craigslist and it has struck my fancy. Harley Davidson xl1200 nighster converted into a cafe racer style bike.

^The geometry on that seems a little fucked up to me. You still have forward controls and the top of the triple clamps are well below the tank. I wouldn't touch that thing, but then again I don't like Sportsters to begin with!

(Btw, I do like cafe racers. Just not that particular project.)

It gets younger pussy wet, no question. But it seems as if the older the girl gets, the less she cares or even starts to dislike. I can't really support this with numbers, just a strong feeling.

They all give me looks though. Other riders care to elaborate?

But guys, the fight itself isn't the focus here. How the whole thing was instigated by 1 girl is the big deal.

Hey guys I been riding dirt for almost 10 years (for fun not competition) I started with an 80cc suzuki with gold rims now I have an '86 XR250R Al Baker with a 280 kit. I have driven street bikes and even an old WW2 BSA that my buddys dad restored years ago

I would like to get a street bike wanted to for a while but I had a few things holding me back. I am thinking older style someone here mentioned a Royal Enfield those are sweet looking bikes but I never rode one. Anyway maybe someone here will have an interesting suggestion I haven't thought of. It doesn't need to be too fast it would really be for fun cruising around locally or on country roads.

Also for fun I have not seen any posts about sidecar bikes (to be fair I didn't read the whole thread) here are some interesting bikes out of Russia with sidecars, Yes I have considered one of these and its still an option as the sidecars are detachable.

FUUUUUUCK the snow in MA is fucking KILLING ME.

My poor little 77' CB400F is stuck out in the garage and I haven't started it all this month.

I've got an HJC helmet and some revvit gloves, other than that I'm in jeans and a denim jacket I occasionally (usually at night) will switch into my Revvit jacket that has white stripes for better visibility but other than that god I MISS riding, last summer was my first summer, going to take the intermediate riders course and work on my skills this summer.

To men more experienced with motorbike selection: what is the best motorbike for comfort which still looks OK?
Specifically I have had a problem with one or two that I've hired, where it forces my posture into this awful S-shape which I have to keep forcing myself to correct. It this to do with the dimensions of the bike?
I'm not really into the modern racer style, nor the 'harley davidson' style.

You're going to want a standard style bike. I even happen to have one for sale:

It's a Moto Guzzi Breva 1200 Sport.

Current ride is Ninja 1000. You got a lot of choices, FZ1, Bandit, Monsters...

Started on the fifth kick today, had to crawl through five feet of snow to get to it hahahaha.
Oh man, I think I'm gonna take a trip this summer, I'd love to ride up to Toronto or something. Probably end up going to NY and staying with some friends in Brooklyn, go to Washington and then into Virginia to see a friend, who knows. Anybody on the East coast want to go up to Toronto with me? I could use some company.

Trailer it or go back roads and take your time. Also I love those bikes and have owned one of those three 350-4s which I like better for some reason a 550-4 which I'll be buying another one some day I have a few bikes to collect in front of it but if a cherry one shows up on eBay game on.

Basically I'm collecting my favorite bikes and my dads as well but I'm worried even though inside my shop gets real hot in the summer so I'm going to need real climate control storage.

That 400 will be worth 20k in a few years.

20k!?!?!?!? YEAH, maybe in collectors condition and all original. Mine isn't completely original, someone put the sissy bars on it at some point (I believe, don't think they came like that stock), the rear fender is from a CM400, front blinkers from a CB750, rear blinkers I bought and installed, no electric start kick only and some other things. I was going to sell it after this summer but I don't know if I'll ever be able to sell it.

What bikes do you have at the moment??

What's it like riding in Mexico? Maybe I'll change my whole plan and shoot down there instead, can I stay at your place for a few weeks?

Scan ebay for the NOS parts you need or may need like voltage reg etc. Put it back to stock and wait/enjoy it.

I'm in Florida and riding here sucks ass but the boat world is fantastic.

My only keeper is museum quality everything else moves

Everyone, get an armored jacket. I high-sided in Frisco at about 25-30 mph, my left should is permanently dented in about 1/2 inch and has hurt on and off for 20 years.

Go put some miles on that bike, Pinch.

My recent addiction is doing long haul trips on sportbikes - put 14k miles on a little R6 last summer, touring through the Northern states, British Columbia, Alberta & Alaska. Nothing better.
