Delayed Trip Report - Puerto Plata & Santiago

Note: This Data Sheet is 2 weeks old. I had two I.T. certifications to study for and that had taken up most of my free time.

Puerto Plata/Santiago Weekend Data Sheet
I just returned from a quick getaway to the Dominican Republic where spent 3.5 days in Puerto Plata and 1.5 days in Santiago. It was just me and one of my boys who decided to go at the last minute. Since there are other data sheets on Santiago, I will just add items that were specific to my trip because I would be repeating things from H-Casanova, Elabayarde and Lumiere data sheets.

Transportation
First, let me say that I flew to Santiago, rented a car and immediately drove to Puerto Plata while returning back to Santiago for the last 1.5 days. Unlike what was said about Santo Domingo or other larger areas in the DR, Puerto Plata only has taxis and motorcoaches (motorcycles/mopeds) for public transportation. While I agree that using a taxi is probably best if you are flying to-and-from Puerto Plata, the price difference between flying directly to Puerto Plata and Santiago was $250, so it was better for me to rent a car. Taxis charge $100 to drive from Santiago airport to Puerto Plata. Using my AMEX discount, I rented a car from Hertz for $25/day. Also with AMEX Platinum, you get full-coverage insurance for a flat rate of $24 (for the entire rental period). The one drawback is if you do not use the local car renter’s insurance, they authorize $1500 on your credit card but since I have AMEX, it doesn’t matter.

Lodging
Of course, Puerto Plata is a big tourist spot so the hotels are mostly on resorts with the pure hotels being towns like Sosua and or Cabarete. Now as many of you know, Sosua is known as a P4P spot so I wanted to avoid that. I stayed at the Lifestyles Resorts in the Cofresi beach area in what is called the Presidential Suites. I was able to get a rate of $108/night for a 2-bedroom/3-bathroom suite. I got the rate through a private owner on http://www.vrbo.com. These suites usually go for $150-$200/night but the Dominican economy is based on tourism and if the USA and the UK are affected, then so is the DR. The owner did not even ask for a security deposit. As for visitors, I was SUPPOSED to specify visitors AHEAD of time. I did run into some issues when I did bring a chick to the room and the resort wanted to charge $80 damn dollars but I called the condo owner who told the front desk that she made a mistake and I did not tell the resort that I had rented the suite for 4 people (basically she LIED to the resort in my favor to help me).
In Santiago, I stayed at the Hodelpa Garden Court near the airport. It is a very nice hotel (formerly a Marriott) and there was no problem bringing girls in. My boy and myself each had chicks and walked right through the lobby and to the room. The front desk did ask if the girls were still in the room when we checked out, but I can understand that.
Back to the Presidential Suites in Puerto Plata. Since the suites look so damn luxurious (each bedroom has a hot tub and TV with a separate living room and full kitchen), the suite basically gets the chicks panties wet by itself.

Girls
Let mentioned in the other data sheets, girls are all over the damn place. First Puerto Plata…luckily, not far from Presidential Suites/Lifestyles Resort, there is a small university with a nearby student hangout/restaurant. Even without it, if the chicks think you are from the USA/Canada/UK, they are staring or winking or flirting with you anyway. That probably relates to H-Casanova’s data sheet stating that chicks want something out of you. When patrolling the university, we were still able to get the educated chicks to come to the resort. We did not bang the first set but it basically set up my next visit in November. I was not pressing for the sex because I had already had a chick earlier in the day who visited me from a small town called Guananico from previous online communication. The 2nd set of university chicks we booked (next day) did come over, drank and banged. Chick basically went to my bedroom and proceeded to take a shower and relaxed on my bed in a towel. I guess that meant she was staying.

We also hit clubs on two separate nights. One club is called “Pure” in Puerto Plata. Although there were some nice looking Dominican chicas there…still there were far too many tourists/visitors there. The club did not have that “feel” like the local bars, etc. The other club was on the resort and while it had the same makeup of tourists (of course catering to the resort occupants), it did allow a good number of Dominican chicas as long as they went directly to the club. This was good because these chicks are basically targeting tourists. We were able to bring those girls to the room (with some bribery of the security staff).

We decided to spend a day and a half in Santiago to close out the trip. For plain ‘ole daytime approach, there is the area around the monument (los heroes?) where girls will hang out, read, etc. Remember, Santiago is a university town, so there are college chicks around. Although I bash the site, I used Badoo to start communicating with chicas about a month before my trip. Of course, out of the chicks I had talked to….or 3 could really meet me before I leave town. I ended up, having one of them stay with me at the hotel overnight.

Conclusion
Now, I don’t want this to sound like it was ALL game. I believe Hencredible Casanova also mentioned this, but most Dominican women want SOMETHING or know they will get something. So, maybe they were not direct P4P but those chicks knew that they were staying (at least overnight) in a nice resort suite or hotel. They knew they would get some meals…either from the resort or whenever me and my boy went out to eat.
I am going back again November 14-18. This time I am going with 10 other dudes but these guys are more into golfing (which I am also) and they are more of the Sosua visiting types. I myself will be staying in Cabarete at their version of the Lifestyle resorts. I still have a few Dominican chicas (a couple of students) from this trip and will probably do more direct approaches in Puerto Plata. I will hang out with the other fellas during our golf tee times and maybe when we want to just drink at the bars. Me and the guy who was with me on this trip KNOWS that the other 10 guys are not going to do the legwork of visiting campus, etc.

1) Red Hat Linux Systems Administration - this is mainly for the cloud computing jobs. I have Hadoop training but I have been noticing cloud projects asking for Red Hat Linux experts.

2) PMP (project management) - I already have this cert...but I needed to renew it by taking coursework.

My main/bread-n-butter expertise is Oracle (DBA and data modeling).

I'm at vrbo right now looking at the place you stayed. I see the pictures, but can you say how long or far the walk is to the ocean? I assume you didn't pay the $65-75 a day for the all-inclusive so can you give the names of the places you ate at? Thanks for sharing. Put that condo on my favorites list.

Actually, I did pay the all-inclusive. There was no way around that. I got out of paying all-inclusive PER VISITOR (thanks to the owner). The owner rented the 2Bed-3Bath room for $108/night...so me and boy paid $59/each +all-inclusive. The ocean is actually a 5-7 minute walk at the adjacent resort.

The required all-inclusive payment was why I looked into the related Lifestyles condos in Cabarate (which do NOT have all-inclusive fees) for my trip in November.

Still we did not eat at all-inclusive for each meal. I will get the 2 names of restaurants we went to (one chosen by the friend of the girl I was with) from my boy.

Ok, thanks. I rarely drink alcohol so that $75 a day all-inclusive fee annoys me (actually it would annoy me even if I drank). When I stayed at the Paradisus Punta Cana I skipped the fee and ate mostly protein bars the whole time and walked down the beach or into town to eat.

Yeah, I was looking through vrbo and saw an even better condo (at least for my situation) in Cabarete.

How long was the drive from Santiago to Puerto Plata?

The drive from Santiago to the North Coast is about 1.5 hours. I wouldn't do the all inclusive. Instead, rent a condo or a villa. A good place to stay in Cabarete is the Millenium Resort.

Yeah, although the north coast is only 50 miles, it will take 1.5 hours because you will have to deal with one of two winding routes. Both routes are not paved the best and you will not be able to drive faster than 40 mph.

and....

I do not advise driving on those two roads at night. Use the longer and more crowded route that goes through Imbert.

Most people stay at all inclusive resorts because they offer such great deals. Airfare, hotel, food and drinks around $100 per person per night.

There is a complex in Puerto Plata called Playa Dorado. There are about 12 all inclusive in Puerto Plata. It was opened the late 1970's. The hotels offer great deals but never put any money back into the hotels. Most of the hotels are closed now.

Punta Cana/Bavaro started building huge new resorts and took all the business from Playa Dorado.

When I was building my house in cabarete, I lived in an all inclusive resort for almost a year. They hooked me up with a good deal. $22 off season and $30 during high season. If I was going to retire, i would think about moving into an all inclusive resort.

Lifestyles offers $22 night specials to gringos, because they are trying to sell vacation packages (timeshares) Its on cheapcarribbean.com
