Salt Lake City, Utah Datasheet

This is from the Wife Hunting Thread, I saw someone say SLC is something they like in the new Unpopular Opinions thread, had to post this again.

Bottom line: Salt Lake City has a good pocket of thin feminine Mormon girls. The city itself is small, a bit drab and shanty, and way more white trash than you would ever expect with a bit of a grey empty mood.

Destination V: Salt Lake City, UT, USA

Well it isn't international, yet Utah is almost like another country.

I was only in Salt Lake for 2 nights and 1 day. I have been to the city previously about a decade ago for a single day. I went for a 2 night concert on a road trip, so it was mostly circumstance I visited.

Among the list of U.S. cities known on the forum as being better chances at wife material Salt Lake had made the short list:

Minneapolis
Chicago
Charleston
Salt Lake City

The upside:
Salt Lake has some nice scenery. It is easy to get around. The air is fresh. I've heard living expenses are cheap.

There is a solid pocket of good looking women, I especially noticed looking very good in their 30s and 40s.

I wonder what proportion of these women are strict Mormons. I am guessing a decent amount and their healthy lifestyle and no whoring around keeps them fresh.

The downside:
Utah is a weird state. Salt Lake is a weird city. Outside of the downtown area many of the neighborhoods look a bit run down. There are rules everywhere. Rules posted at the park when you walk in. Highway digital signs saying 42 deaths is too much for traffic fatalities. I couldn't order a double vodka at the concert, no double drink pours, it is against state law. No smoking on bar outdoor patios (really?). Bars close at 1AM.

There are people on the borderline of white trash everywhere. There are more homeless than you would expect for such a small city.

I was walking across a wide street at a stop light when the hand was flashing red half way across. The streets weren't busy. As I finished crossing a guy turning left to where I was walking rolled down his window to shout some obscenity. I may have cost him 2 seconds when the roads were practically empty.

After getting out of the bars downtown standing on a street corner a couple guys slowed down to roll down their window and say "hey!" then just smiled and gave me the middle finger.

There is a sort of fucked up depressing energy in this city. You can feel the failure in many of the people. I think the city Mormons with their shit together should just round up all the white trash and kick them over to New Mexico or something.

At the concert one night I overheard the much stereotyped conversation about SLC locals almost being embarrassed to say they are born and raised there because so many locals hate on living there.

The pocket of attractive bright eyed young (most likely Mormon) girls is a nice little bait. I think the city itself would not be a great place to live by any means. Hence it is off my list.

It feels like a more white trash, smaller, on the down swing, much less cool version of Denver.

Denver's strange little failure of a cousin.

I last posted on this thread in 2012. My how things have changed.

You nailed it. SLC is my home base, and the energy you mentioned had been gnawing at me but I couldn't quite describe it. You did it perfectly. There is something about it here; the angry hipsters, the aggressive homeless, the white trash, the air of inferiority.

SLC has become waaaaay more progressive in the last few years, and I think it's due to the inferiority complex many Utahns have of their state being (whether correct or not) a backwater of the US. So they double down on the progressive policies and signaling to show they can be as cool as California too. It's kind of sad really.

I love the outdoor recreation opportunities, low taxation, and permissive gun laws here though. Gonna make the move higher up into the mountains and re-establish camp in Park City. See how that goes for a year or so. The valley is becoming hot, crowded, and angry.

Is there anywhere in the US that isn't becoming more and more trashy?

"Okay (and I'm laughing now, because this is so funny), so we're A) not supposed to give you flowers, B) pay you compliments, or C) look at you. Anything else? Because I'm struggling to figure out the reason why after hearing that, I'm feeling like I'd rather get fucked in the ass by a Cape Buffalo than ever have to sit through dinner with you. Maybe you can figure it out for me. When you do, let me know. I'll be at Natasha's house."

Absolutely well put. I think its all degrees of trashy these days, just have to find the place(s) that are degenerating the slowest. Im a big skier and have been pretty much everywhere in the western US and if there is a conservative Dr. Jekyll to the liberal Mr. Hyde its a bit further north than UT/CO I think. I should have some intel on the Idaho Panhandle and Spokane/CDA areas within the next week if all goes to plan.

Please post up your findings; I've had my eye on CDA.

So it has been about six months since I've moved here, and the honeymoon period is definitely over. Although there are some good things about the city, the negatives are definitely showing.

-It's not the dirtiest city, but there are parts where the homeless and other vagrants run rampant. The city IMO has more than enough money and capital to revive and gentrify these places, but the city government tends to have a blind eye to this.
-The people are very provincial and insular. Unless you've known someone since elementary school, good luck finding a good group of people to hang out with and befriend.
-The activities are few and far between, especially social activities that are conducive to meeting people. Happy hour is illegal, the city is damn near dead on evenings and Saturdays (with Sundays being literally dead), the nightlife options are very limited, and everyone is hanging out with their elementary school friends. If I hear another person recommending hiking (by myself), I'm going to facepalm on the spot.
-The chicks are very flaky, especially those on dating apps. Even those who I have already had sex with. The flakiness is so bad, it's quickly becoming Salt Flake City in my eyes. I've had chicks who backs I've breaked in bed and they suddenly become ghost. This included a chick who just got divorced, was wanting to spend a shitload of time with me, and took three weeks for her to put out. After the second time we had sex, she went completely ghost (but kept me as a friend and contact on all her social media outlets).
-There are a lot of white trash in this city, along with cholos and pseudo-cholo Pacific Islanders. And this is out of the non-LDS population. And there are a lot of passive aggressive hipsters who overcompensate for not being in Austin or Portland. The LDS population, although less trashier by default, are very insular and closed-minded, with the exception being LDS people from out-of-state.

With that being stated, it's not horrible compared to a lot of cities in this nation. And It's still a hell of a lot better than where I'm from, Washington, DC. And it is located near cities more on my wavelength like Seattle, San Diego, Denver, Vancouver, and the Bay Area.

Gonna just drop in and say if you like live music SLC almost always has great bands coming through, that's been a big plus for me. One really bad thing about the valley that I'm surprised no one has mentioned in the awful pollution during the winter, when there's a green, crappy smelling cloud over the valley no one really wants to go out.

I can definitely relate. I just moved in here, and to the suburbs near work no less, so I'm a good 40 minutes from downtown.

I've been trying hobbies to make friends, but even the people I click with are married and sometimes have kids -- they're fucking in their 20s. Work is a no go as well, unless I want to play some board games, which yeah, I enjoy, but that's not really a Saturday night activity for me.

I'm just keeping my head down, focusing on my career (just started it), lifting, practicing BJJ, and hoping to bounce in a year or two to NYC where I've got some actual friends. I've had school as a crutch for so long that I took friends and a social network for granted.

For my first post, I thought I would add to an existing thread since I just came back from a trip here and it has been several months since anyone has given an update. Of the places I would recommend visiting would be:

Red Door (downtown)- Had a nice combination of seated area and your standard bar so should attract a good crowd on a good night. The day I visited was not the best of nights but I think on a good night this would have a lot of potential. Upper scale dress.

Lucky 13 (downtown)- Nice bar and restaurant with dressed down, casual feel. Good place to have fun and hang out.

Hog Wallow Pub (away from downtown but the best I saw)- This was the best of the bars I visited far and away and the easiest to approach women in. Relaxed casual feel with some live music and a wide range of people. Good blend of 20s up to 40s crowd and also conservative and liberal. I would definitely make the effort to take the trip out there.

Also, visited the Beer Hive Pub which in my opinion is not a good fit for what most would want here. It is just like a thousand other bars/pubs but the big problem is it didn't attract the women.

The Five Monkeys bar is closed but there are a couple of bars that are in that area now that could have potential. I decided on going to the Hog Wallow Pub instead, but I would be curious to know if these other bars are good ones as well. I think their names are Ice Haus and Club 48.

Also, it should be mentioned that SLC has a closing time of 1:00am which caught me off guard.

As for SLC as a whole, I liked the town. It is very clean and felt safe the entire time. In addition, for the most part the people are warmer and friendlier at the outset than I am used to. Even the beggars are nice and polite. However, I did notice a rift coming from people who were not Mormon where there does appear to be a significant us versus them thing going on between Mormons and non-Mormons. In terms of appearance, like others have said there is a huge white population of blondes although there is also a good percentage of hispanics. Was also told good things about Park City as being more open and a fun crowd but did not make it out there.

Great write up.
I was in Park City a months ago. Very upscale place and apparently the largest non-Mormon town.

I would love to return to Salt Lake to try the night life.

I just looked up Park city and its beautiful. I have always wanted to visit Utah, my aunt married a guy from there and has lived there since 1985. She says it's really nice and there is fairly large European community there.

I picked up on the "omg hiking" line my first week. Here's how I play it now...

rb: What do you like to do around here?
hb: OMG HIKING!!
rb: When was the last time you went?
hb: Uhhhh like 3 months ago
rb: OK....what do you really do?

Then it turns out these girls live boring lives like the rest of them.
