Well yeah, but those aren't the kinds of things that you're going to get called out on. Also, the line about talking to the program coordinator is so easily expanded upon and could be used so often, on so many people, that you could just default to it. For added authenticity, you could actually pick a department and meet with one. Then, you wouldn't be lying and you would be able to speak to the conversation in greater detail (and hey, you might just become interested and apply to the program!)

I went over to a friends house where he was having some people over. While walking around the party i meet two girls who informed me that they knew only one other person at the party.
