New England Tough Mudder #2

Anyone ever done the tough mudder competitions?

I am entering the New England #1 in about 6 weeks, and am organizing a team for the New England #2 July 14th.

It is roughly a 10 mile course with about 25-30 obstacles thrown in it. Registration fees are pretty steep though(like $155 for the one in six weeks!). They say it takes about 3 hours to finish if your in decent shape.

Heres the promo video:

edit: further research says 15-20% do not finish the course. I saw a few grannies and a few pigs in some of the pictures, so I am sure im not in that bottom 20%. But it seems like attracts a lot of in shape fitness oriented women as well

I met a girl last night who was going to do one of these soon. Apparently you have to run through live wire at some point during this?

Yeah one of the obstacles is a dash through a mud pit with live wires suspended from an overhang

A friend of mine wanted me to register for a tough murder event. We both completed the warrior dash which is basically the same thing except its a lot shorter and everyone gets drunk before e race.

I'm registered for the one in DC, can't wait. It's good motivation to keep up with the training.

I did the one in Arizona a couple of months ago and it was a fucking blast. I highly recommend it to anyone thinking about it. It was packed with chicks and it was a cool party atmosphere when everyone finished (they hand you a beer at the finish line) The live wire part was unimaginably bad, it put me flat on my ass and felt like getting hit with a damn taser, haha. Look forward to hearing how you guys do at it.

Training actually wasnt that bad, if you can honestly run three miles from a cardio perspective you will be fine anywhere up to 5 on the safe side but alot of people in our group werent anywhere near 5 in their training and still finished just fine. There are so many obstacles throughout the course it usually backs up a little bit at them giving you a chance to catch your breath I dont think we ever ran more than a mile straight at a time. As far as training for the obstacles theres not much you could really do to recreate them but as long as youre not a fat ass you will be fine seeing as how most of them are team oriented i.e. the 10 foot walls, carrying wood, and the half pipe and the others theres nothing to train for and they just sucked i.e. jumping in the pool of freezing water and having to submerge to get under barbwire. That one sucked a whole bag of dicks as the water was unimaginably cold. The obstacles they have are different at all the courses so Im not sure how yours will stack up with the one I did.

One thing I recommend is getting an earlier start time so the aid stations arent depleted. As you go through the race every couple of miles or so they will have salt packets, banana slices, or electrolyte packets, take them EVERY time as the race is so long both from a time and distance perspective it does a number on your body and a lot of people experience dehydration and cramping I heard at the later start times they ran out of somethings which would have definitely sucked.

It honestly wasnt as bad as I thought it was gonna be and was an absolute blast other than the electrical wires and the ice bath, you guys will have a great time no doubt.

Good luck!
