Getting in better shape contest

One thing I've noticed over the years is that being healthy and lean are so important. It does wonders for energy levels, confidence, and makes getting laid easier since the girl actually wants to see you naked. There's so much talk on this forum about diet, exercise, etc. Who is ready to put their money where their mouth is?? [Image: idea.gif]

To those that are serious about getting leaner, who is interested in a public contest on this forum for that extra motivation?

Step 1: People who are interested in joining the contest send $200 to a trusted 3rd party (member of the forum) to hold until the end of the contest.

Step 2: Contestants upload a photo to the forum from the neck down holding the daily newspaper with "Rooshv" written on it.

Step 3: Every 2 weeks, progress photos are uploaded, and forum members comment on who is getting leaner. Contestants who are slacking realize they need to pick up the pace.

Step 4: At the end of 12 weeks, forum members vote to decide the winner. To the victor goes the spoils, but even the "losers" have still won. That $200 would have easily been spent on a personal trainer for a kick in the butt.

Everybody in the contest should be of fairly similar fitness level. It's far easier for obese people to see dramatic results quickly than moderately fit people.

I'm about 15-16% BF. Late 20's. Want to get down to under 10%.

I'm already in a contest with money on the line. I just wanted to say that at 15% bf, which is about where I am too, its much more difficult to get to 10% then say, 25% to 20% or 20% to 15%. Those beasts on Biggest Loser are the extreme examples. They can lose pounds a day just because their maintenance calories are so ridiculously high.

From experience and other antecotes, you need to get semi-extreme. Intermittent fasting is the only thing that solidly works for me getting my calories down enough.

I guess the only upside is that 15% to 10% will be much more noticeable then obese to fat.

Yeah, how would we measure this kind of thing? I had a competition with this person once but it went nowhere because we didn't really have a way to measure it other than lifting stats.

Maybe take the percentage of your original weight or fat lost. Or percentages of your overall measurements.

We could have different classes of guys, one for fat loss, one for strength gains, one for losing that last little bit of fat to gripped. Different weightclasses so to speak.

I am interested but 200 dollars seems rather high. Can we have a test run of maybe 50 bucks instead?

Looks good but kind of expensive if we're measuring monthly or something.

I'm a university kid so even $50 is a bunch for me, I might be able to swing that, but I'd still be down to have a competition and some updates, I already have an account on bodybuilding.com which i find really useful for measurements/body fat %s it also graphs it for you?

I'm open to a smaller entrance fee if it brings people into the contest.

As for measuring progress, I think the best way is by uploading pictures. Body fat calculators are VERY easy to manipulate (except for DEXA), can be costly and inconvenient to get, and the results will be much more quickly disputed by the losers. Pictures take only a couple minutes and can definitely show progress especially over longer time periods.

I agree with pictures. Can we make it 50 bucks over a 3 months period? How often should picture updates be uploaded?

Yea but a guy with lower body fat will look better flexing, than a fat guy so it still boils down to better body shape.

Considering how difficult it is to stay strict while traveling, I'm not doing too badly. The problem is finding a gym everywhere you go. I'll be on the road (SE Asia) until end of March.

I will probably shoot for just cutting fat as my goal, I have a six pack lurking somewhere.

Western Cancer, Moma, anybody else interested in entering. Can you PM me a shirtless pic (no face necessary) so I have a rough idea of where you're at now, I'll respond back with the same. As long as we're within 5% BF of each other it should be fine. I say we cut off submissions 2/20, begin the contest on 3/1, end it on 6/1. Sound good? I'm excited!
