There is nothing to be confused about. She has a beta boyfriend, and want some alpha action. She is only attracted to you because of your authority.

A professor in your very own department already got fired for merely asking a girl out. You are a lowly instructor, not even ladder track, and "you need them more than they need you".

Safe or not?

The beta boyfriend already suspects and he will find out (by snooping her e-mail, diary, cell phone, getting her drunk, getting in argument, guessing, etc.). Then he will complain you exchange grades for sexual favors, and gave him an unfair grade. Even if his complaints have no merit, you are done. In fact, if your department chair read this thread then you would not get renewed. Stupidly unsafe.

Let me be real clear. This beta boyfriend find out everything and get pissed off. Then he will complain to the department, perhaps threaten to sue, and perhaps even claim you propositioned him about a three-way. If the girl admits you asked her out or saw her off campus then you are fired. If she admits more and they are looking to set an example or avoid lawsuits, then the boyfriend gets an automatic "A" and full scholarship, and you get blacklisted from your profession. They are hypersensitive after firing the other professor, and you will be sacrificed to protect the department.
