Woman dressed in hijab does not get spoken to in NYC

Very interesting experiment. In places like Egypt, Saudi Arabia and parts of India, a hijab or even a burqua would be absolutely no impediment to street-harassment. The street harassment women experience on those streets, both covered and uncovered, makes NYC "harassment" look like a joke.

An Egyptian friend of mine talked about how she once got off a crowded bus in Cairo, noticed a stain on her black abaya and realized that someone had jerked off on her. Another Egyptian friend who is an independent global traveler admitted that when she visits her relatives back home she always has male relatives accompanying her to minimize the harassment she gets when walking on the streets; it drove her to wear the hijab to fend off the attention but she said it hardly made a dent. My Indian friend would tell us about her student days when she would take public transportation...all women were advised to carry long knitting pins to silently poke men who would take advantage of crowded buses to grope them.

If the NYC harassment chick Shoshanna walked for 10 hours Cairo and New Delhi, she'd gain some serious perspective and appreciation for how little actual harassment is present in the streets of NYC.
