What severely compounds the problem with the obesity epidemic is how it is treated in the media. It is anathema to talk about it for two reasons:
1) It is scientifically denied. Funny, the same people who virulently attack people who refuse to vaccinate their kids or deny climate change, when it comes to the science of obesity scream “health at any size” which has no scientific basis whatsoever. At best, it is treated as a he said-she said.
2) They try to brainwash society into thinking it is attractive. Fat women are “real women”, “Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes”, etc. I’m watching football, and literally just saw an ad for a TV show with fat Mindy Kaling and a guy in bed. The guy is fit of course.
Number one is probably more dangerous, because as men we can just say “fuck you, don’t tell us who we should be attracted to, and it certainly isn’t going to be some fat whale”. As has been mentioned by several posters, it flat out costs our society too much and the burden is placed on those of us who stay in shape, work hard, and don’t take disability due to obesity.
