I'm not one for letting little kids get treated like absolute shit for something they can't really control, least of all by adults who should know better.

And if you think that words are what is making these kids kill themselves -- read up on antidepressant polypharmacy and suicides. They are prescribed multi-drug cocktails up to their gills by irresponsible docs to deal with their "confusions" and "depression". And that really does spell the end for many.
