Rooshing up my style: Used to wear V necks+Jeans ,how should I dress up in Europe?

I'm not as well traveled as 95% of the guys on here but I assume that nice jeans and a v-neck is a universal look. Its casual, comfortable, and can be worn many different ways...changing of shoes and a nice jacket takes it from casual to classy.
