Yeah this is true, you gotta stay away from the McGill ghetto, Crescent Street and the Anglophones - St. Laurent and the French areas are where it's at at least in my experience. Just a much better vibe and way more of a party environment. It's no contest.
BTW, you need to get to Arahova for souvlakis they are the best I ever had! And Schwartz's for some good deli food!
Of course, I went to school there in 1996-8 so it's been awhile))))) Back then Jello Bar in the Latin Quarter was a pretty happening spot!
