How do you know that what they're doing is a waste from a two-minute video? These guys could be students who did this as a class project to learn how to work with the underlying technology. I made a jacket for women that was linked into the phones accelerometer so when women were texting and walking they could "signal left or right" by rotating the phone, and even put on some brake lights by pulling back on the phone.
It was a fun idea, got a huge laugh out of faculty and peers, but was also a huge troll on the growing level of women walking and texting/surfing.
Kind of like this "hugging" jacket, it was not meant for market.
Staying curious, building on skills, and having fun. This is what education should look like.
