This is part of an overall crackdown on racism in European soccer. Teams are leaving the field when there are racist chants or the throwing things at their teammates. Teams are being punished for what groups of fans are doing (which I'm not in agreement with - have them thrown out, but players shouldn't be punished for what some fans do). Players are being suspended and/or fined for racist words/gestures. It's obviously a difficult issue for governing bodies of the sport to deal with, but they're trying.
