The thing is, cheap hotel rooms can be had downtown for quite cheap. So airbnb is probably not necessary for this purpose. The Cecil Hotel charges like $40 for a small room with shared bath.

speakeasy, you're golden with DTLA recommendations I love the place. I'm planning on checking out the Perch (where you took Amour Fou to) sometime and then see if I can secure a room there beforehand. Combine basilransom's idea, then Tuthmosis recipe for 1st date bangs, you could also go with the "out of towner" angle, this has potential...I'm 30 min away from DT by Metro.
