Android Data Recovery Services?

I'm not sure a "recovery" program will work for you. A contact isn't a file but an entry in a "contacts" database. What you may want to get in the habit of doing is backing up your contacts, especially after you add a new contact.

I do this the "opposite" way. The phone is a client of a Microsoft Exchange (hosted) email account with contacts and calendar. It updates every second. Any changes made on the phone or any other client such as the laptop are made to the server. This way it does not matter at all what happens to the phone. ($10 a month or so.)

Turn around your way of thinking of it. The idea of "backing up" contacts is outdated. You are instead having a constantly updated contacts in your server, and the phone can be replaced at any time and the contacts will appear within minutes on a new phone that you add your exchange account to.

You can still use google to backup the actual android "settings."
