I believe the term "political correctness" has been co-opted by bigots and jerks who actually do utter something racist or otherwise inappropriate, then want to hide behind the charge of political correctness when they're called out on their foolishness. In this instance...it's true. This really is an example of hyper-sensitivity getting the better of folks that seem to have too much time on their hands to overthink the simplest of things out of fear of offending someone...

It seemed to escape them that the cat existed before someone co-opted "cougar" as a label for used-up, desperate broads chasing young dick. Sports teams named for animal mascots are as old as sport itself. This is also another instance where adults corrupt and ruin games for the children. Kids just want to play and enjoy. I'm shocked that someone hasn't insisted that the U of Houston and Brigham Young, or any other school sports team in the country, drop the cougar nickname. Ridiculous.
