Frenchman Fined $14,000 for Not Having Sex with Wife - Geronimo - 09-06-2011

Voulez vous couchez avec moi ce soir? The wrong answer cost Jean Louis, 51, big time after a court ruled he had to pay his ex-wife for failing to fulfill his "marital duties".

A judge in Nice ruled that the legal code stipulating married couples must agree to a "shared communal life," implied that "sexual relations must form part of a marriage."

The rare legal decision came after the 47-year-old wife, Monique, filed for divorce two years ago. She blamed the break-up on her hubby, Jean Louis', lack of sex drive.

A judge granted her the divorce and said that Jean Louis was solely responsible for the split.

But the ex-wife wanted him to pay. So she took him back to court demanding 10,000 euros ($14,000) in compensation for "lack of sex over 21 years of marriage".

The ex-husband claimed "tiredness and health problems" had prevented him from being more attentive between the sheets.

But an appeals court judge in the south of France's highest court in Aix-en-Provence ruled in the wife's favor.

"A sexual relationship between husband and wife is the expression of affection they have for each other, and in this case it was absent," the judge ruled.

"By getting married, couples agree to sharing their life and this clearly implies they will have sex with each other."

But for the country that's known for "La langue de l'amour" it seems that France may be losing its libido.

The Daily Mail says a survey by the French Institute of Public Opinion questioned 1,000 adults and found that 76% of them 'suffer relationship problems that due to a poor sex life.

Half of those also polled said they had 'no desire' to make love.

More than a third of French women confessed to citing headaches, fatigue or 'not in front of the children' as excuses for saying no. One in six men admitted similar excuses. Figures show that one in three traditional French marriages ends in divorce.

Wow, so does this mean men can sue their wives for not having sex now? [Image: icon_lol.gif]

Somehow, I think not.
