what percent of guys do you think are addicted to porn? - Glock - 01-29-2014

Not addicted. I think a small proportion are actually addicted. Probably less than 10%.

what percent of guys do you think are addicted to porn? - Avon Barksdale - 01-29-2014

Good point. I think addicted might be the wrong way to phrase it. But I'd still venture that a lot use it as a crutch. Sure they're not skipping work to rub one out (like an addict), but they're doing it enough to affect their dating/sex lives; in the form of ED, lack of desire, lack of motivation, etc.

Let's say in the U.S. or comparable countries.

what percent of guys do you think are addicted to porn? - Handsome Creepy Eel - 01-29-2014

Addicted? Probably a small percentage, around 10%. Most either don't consume that much porn (either because of not having the habit or because of having a reasonably active sex life), or do but don't suffer deleterious effects from it (impotency, withdrawal urges, bizzare fetishism etc.).

Still, this number will increase as the new generation grows up with online streaming porn and broadband internet access from the very start of puberty. But I don't expect it to ever turn into an epidemic. Even if 100% of men regularly watch porn, I don't think more than 20% could ever be "addicted".

what percent of guys do you think are addicted to porn? - funkyzeit - 01-29-2014

Addicted? Maybe 20%.

On the way to become addicted? 60%

That leaves 20% who are either having regular sex with their girlfriends so porn is an occasional thing, or they are on no porn regime.

what percent of guys do you think are addicted to porn? - Mage - 01-29-2014

I have a theory, based from my observations that porn usage and masturbation is correlated with sedentary lifestyle and reversely correlated with smoking.

See my reply to Glock. Addicted might be the wrong word choice. but more a significant crutch I guess you could say

what percent of guys do you think are addicted to porn? - DaveR - 01-29-2014

If you combine porn, alcohol/weed/drugs and video games, I think it would be around half of 25-year-old white guys in the Anglo-sphere. I'm not sure for other subcultures.

I don't know if I would call them "addictions", "excesses" or something else, but a lot of younger guys could be getting more out of life.

I think your numbers are completely wrong, I just find it impossible to believe that 4 out of every 5 men are currently or will be obsessed with pornography.

I can totally believe that 80% of men have looked at porn on an occasional basis, and can take it or leave it.

Addicts are not normal people with bad habits, they are addicts. People on strict no-porn regimes to stop themselves from draining all their bodily fluids are addicts who are resisting their habits.

See Table 2 on this study "Prevalence of the Addictions: A Problem of the Majority or the Minority?"
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles.../table/T2/

Look at how much higher the other addictions are for people who are already addicted to something else.

I feel like there's a ton of guys out there who say..."I'm not addicted to porn, I can quit when ever I want" An never quit watching porn. Its the same thing everyone I now addicted to something says and never quits.

Look at the NO FAP thread on here at how many people only make it a week before they break down and watch porn again.

All men are addicted to "porn" 100 percent of the time. I see this as an invalid argument.

Here is why: if you take porn away, guys will just fantasize about women on magazine covers. Take that away and guys will fantasize about hot women they see IRL. Isolate a man and he'll create imaginary women to fantasize about or remember someone from his past.

Men are biologically built to see women as sexual. Porn makes it convenient, but without porn, anything can become "porn" in a man's brain. This is what upsets nuns and feminists the most: that men are wired to conceive women as sexual beings, not androgynous worker-bee drones.

Does porn take away some men's desire to meet women? Sure.

But I'm old enough to remember before porn was ubiquitous and those same guys (I knew them in college) would stay in their dorm rooms weekends and jerk off to Cosmo or Glamour or other mags they got secondhand on campus. (Our campus didn't sell Playboy so this was the best they could do.)

Since Slate posited back in 2006 that online porn "prevents rape" (their words), maybe it's best for society that such men have an outlet and stay away from real women, where they'll ruin lives -- not to mention ruin it for the rest of us.

So...stop looking at Internet porn. But if you feel the need to relieve yourself, you still gotta think about something. Then that's, technically, pornographic, isn't it?

I'll throw out a qu here: let's say I swear off all porn. But I re-watch Bristol Palin's sexy turn on "Dancing With the Stars" on YouTube. Then I fantasize about that night after night. Was that "porn?" And am I "addicted" to this sort of thing, or just "addicted" to sexuality itself, which is part of our biological makeup?

Serious question: how many guys in the USA and comparable countries (where it isn't banned) are addicted to food?

what percent of guys do you think are addicted to porn? - RXB - 01-29-2014

I think there's a difference between being addicted and just watching.

A lot of the guys on NO FAP end up fapping because they aren't getting release anywhere else.

Imagine just being some dude who was already bad with women and then not being able to whack off. After a couple days you're going to relapse.

I quite watching porn for six months last year and only whacked it on Sunday afternoons if I'd done a certain amount of approaches. It was a huge motivator to go out and get laid. Also the safety net was still for occasions when I'd had a rough week and couldn't pull.

After six months I ended up hooking up with a girl but got interrupted, it's a long story, later that night I fired up Spankwire.

Do you know what I discovered?

Porn was super cheesy and I couldn't get excited for it. I was getting enough of the real stuff that a staged sex scene with fae moaning couldn't hold my interest.

Spanking it more than once a day. Plus only being able to get off on extreme imagery like rape porn or double anal gangbangs.

Guys have been wanking to porn since the beginning of time. It's nothing new and it won't go away anytime soon.

I think a lot of the suicide bombing issues would go away if Muslims loosened up on the religious anti-masturbation rules. Excess testosterone makes guys do stupid shit like blow themselves up with hopes of ending up in a magical poosy paradise.

Women's bodies build up extra hormones once a month with expectations of pregnancy. Men build up excess testosterone with the same expectations. Women bleed to normalize their hormone levels and men jerk off for the same reason. It's perfectly natural. In fact if you didn't jerk off you'd end up having nocturnal emissions. It's gotta come out eventually. [Image: lol.gif]

I haven't had a wet dream in years.. probably because I'm sort of living one. Wouldn't mine having one just for nostalgia.

Some people (such as Peter Hitchens) don't think there is such thing as addiction. To anything.

I am inclined to agree.

But with that said - how many people have an unhealthy relationship with porn? Quite alot. I think it is a problem for alot of men. Even to the point that men are visualising their favourite porn/porn stars in order to help them through sex.

There was a good article on the effects of porn on men in the New York magazine a couple of years ago:

what percent of guys do you think are addicted to porn? - Nascimento - 01-29-2014

How many people can go a month without porn? (not no fap, that is different).

If you can't under willpower circumstance go that long without porn, then you are addicted in some way (its not a 0 or 100% scale).

I know I'm not addicted because I've gone several months without it. Although nowadays I'll watch it every now and then.

It's like everything else, moderation. Although porn especially taken in large doses is especially detrimental.

what percent of guys do you think are addicted to porn? - tylerdurden1993 - 01-29-2014

Porn has had a negative impact on my life, I started watching it when I was 13, and got up to 5-8x a week max when I was 16-18, and after a while you have to start watching some strange stuff to get that dopamine rush.
In the past year ive really curbed the usage as it really is awful compared to the real thing even though im not really getting enough sex as id like.
I only really watch it every so often 2-3x a month when im bored, and while you still get the dopamine rush, you feel pretty shitty afterwards as it literally is a waste of sperm, and as a result feel down and depressed the rest of the day after watching porn.
In the end however I don't really care if other men watch porn as its actually a benefit for me if they do as if they're watching porn the less likely they are to be approaching real women, which means the shit ratios get a little better.

Unpopular opinion here:

I'm proudly addicted (once per night or every other night). Since my quality demands have increased, if I try and cannot smash 7.5/10 or higher pussy for that night, I live out my fantasy through porn. Porn is way cheaper than hookers, legal, I can't get falsely accused of rape, and can live out any fantasy possible. 6 and below pussy isn't even worth it anymore. I consider myself high value and am doing myself an injustice for smashing 6s and below. I've been into self-improvement since joining this forum and I deserve 7.5s or better. I get off on the same type of porn as when I was a young teen: basic male-female, lesbian, and ffm scenes. I haven't progressed into the dark side of porn in order to get off: bestiality, tentacle sex, tranny, anime etc. I daygame and go out at night a few times a week. What's the big problem?
