Matrix director sex change - Thomas the Rhymer - 09-11-2012

One of the guys who invented the whole 'blue pill/red pill' mythology has had a sex change.

I feel horrified. You'd think that the guys who made the matrix would have had a more philosophical predisposition.

Maybe the "Red Pill" was full of estrogens... maybe...

Matrix director sex change - void - 09-11-2012

"it" is 47 now, looks better than most females that age...

Personally, I don't mind actual transsexuals. I feel for people who may have been born the wrong gender, even if I'm not sure what that means. It is the bullshit, poser, pansexual, gender salad types that piss me off.

Matrix director sex change - RandalGraves - 09-11-2012

I believe he is just transgender, which technically isn't a sex change. There has been no operation, he just carries himself as a woman and probably takes hormones for the fat distribution.

"May have been born the wrong gender"? You can't be born the wrong gender, chief. That's modern "feel good about every bad choice you can make" hogwash.

Why not?

Once you accept that biology plays a huge role in our personalities and that female brains and brain chemistry is different enough than male brains and brain chemistry to make gender a biological reality, it logically follows that a certain small percentage of people are going to be born with a brain-body mismatch.

Is this guy one of those people? I have no idea and I don't really care. If he's going to go through the trouble of living as a woman, then I'll take his word that he might have been born with male genitalia, but have a disposition towards female brain chemistry.

Heh. It's just a movie. Don't worry. You don't have to also get surgery, just because you happen to enjoy it..

But the Wachowski brothers used to be cool...

Now they're weird.

I'm disappointed.

Matrix director sex change - muc - 09-11-2012

They stopped being cool when they made Matrix 2 and 3. [Image: wink.gif]

(Their new movie, Cloud Atlas, looks good though.)

Matrix director sex change - soup - 09-11-2012

As much as there is a lot of anti-gay sentiment around here, all the homo guys that I know hate stuff like Sex and The City etc. that ruins American women.

my grandfather had bussiness ties to hollywood back in the day. he would tell me most people in the bussiness are either drunks or gays

For some reason I just had to think about Oliver Reed. He wasn't gay, alright, but he was a drunk. Maybe your grandfather was right! [Image: smile.gif] Check out Reed's quotes on http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0001657/bio :

My only regret is that I didn't drink every pub dry and sleep with every woman on the planet.

or

I believe that my woman shouldn't work outside the home. When I come home and I'm tired from filming all day, I expect her to be there and make sure that everything is cool for me. You know, like drawing my bath and helping me into bed. That's the kind of job she had and, in return for it, she can bear my children and if any man talks bad to her, I'll hit him.

Matrix director sex change - Kickb - 09-11-2012

What will they call themselves now that "The Wachowski Brothers" isn't correct.

Matrix director sex change - bacon - 09-11-2012

Born the wrong gender? What about born the wrong race? Or born the wrong species? Is that also a valid argument?

Matrix director sex change - Basil Ransom - 09-11-2012

Maybe we can stop using the cloyingly cliched 'red pill blue pill analogy' now. Just maybe?

Matrix director sex change - Moma - 09-11-2012

I remember Oliver Reed from Oliver Twist. He played Bill Sikes. One of my favourite Dickens novels. Couldn't get through any of the others 'Tale of Two cities', 'Great Expectations'.

Matrix director sex change - WanderingSoul - 09-11-2012

Who the fuck wrote that article? That thing is a literary masterpiece.

So his solution to male pattern baldness is to pretend to be a woman so he can wear garish wigs he bought at Burning Man?

On the left is the best he can look, with multiple groomers and makeup artists before each photo shot:

But without multiple handlers to groom him, he looks like a try-hard 50 year old at comic-con still trying to be hip and not quite getting it.

His trajectory toward gender reassignment had been clear for quite a few years to insiders. He began adopting an androgynous or feminine appearance nearly a decade ago, after becoming involved with the S&M and dungeon community, leaving his wife for dominatrix Ilsa Strix, and then announcing his intention to become a woman. Allegedly he has only done chemicals, not surgery, and evidently completed the process during a hiatus after the completion of “Speed Racer” in 2008, the last film to credit the “Wachowski Brothers” as writers and directors. He debuted as "Lana" (sometimes "Laurenca") just a few months ago, in July 2012. Ilsa Strix's previous husband was porn star Buck Angel.

Or as one wag put it, "Comic book nerd gets rich making pretentious SF movies, gets heavily into S&M, leaves his wife, has surgery to become "a woman" and then enters into a "lesbian" marriage with his dominatrix all while his meathead-looking younger brother looks on in bemusement."

"Lana" refuses to provide the details of whether or not she's undergone the full surgical transition publicly. Only those close to her know.

See my response to alpha above.

You can't be born the wrong race, because race isn't binary. You can't be born the wrong species, because, for the most part, species can't mate.

There are differences in how male and female brains develop, owing to the release of different hormones at different stages of development. If you accept that basic fact, then it's entirely possible that someone could be one gender, but have the brain chemistry of the other gender, because certain hormones are absent or present in higher than normal levels, or because those hormones were released earlier or later than normal.

If you accept that gender is biological, then you should accept that there can, and will, be anomalies.
