Inspired by 2Wycked's excellent post here:

I've decided to post ANOTHER Venture Bros thread because I believe this is a topic in its own right and I didn't want to thread-hijack.
Ok if it's been covered before... apologies... but here we go:
The main characters of The Venture Bros are directly modelled on Neil Strauss and Mystery.
I believe that Jackson Publick, the creator of the show, has been deeply into pickup, read The Game, and woven aspects of Strauss and Mystery's characters into the characters!
The evidence.
First off, the visuals. Let's look at Dr Venture:

COME ON!! Case-closed. Anyone who bought the edition of The Game with the cartoon artwork on it will recognize the stunning similarity. Unfortunately I can't find an image of the original back cover, as that's the one we need. The original Game had the 'cool' Strauss on the front and the geeky one on the back. It's the back-cover one I need. If anyone has it, please upload it! For now, I will present a normal picture of Strauss:
![[Image: neilstrauss.jpg]](http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a615/jammyDodger137/neilstrauss.jpg)
Now, onto Mystery. First off, The Monarch:
![[Image: themonarch.jpg]](http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a615/jammyDodger137/themonarch.jpg)
Fancy costumes. Very tall. Theatrical. I'm sure he has painted nails too. Peacocking? And now Mystery:
![[Image: mystery2.jpeg]](http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a615/jammyDodger137/mystery2.jpeg)
Now look at the pair of them:
![[Image: freaks.jpeg]](http://i1286.photobucket.com/albums/a615/jammyDodger137/freaks.jpeg)
Now, the behaviour of the characters matches the book characters as well. Note, I say 'book characters' not 'them' as I do not know them in real life, only the personas Strauss represented in the book.
Dr Venture is a Gamma. Grandiosity complex. Delusions of superiority, but with some basis in fact (most Gammas ARE super-talented in something). Always hatching inside plans and little schemes. Repellant to women. Weasely. All of this describes both pre-Game Strauss and Dr Venture.
The Monarch. Not such a close match BUT.... tall, prominent chin... predilection for black. Loves peacocking costumes. Confident. Both weirdly talented and laughably useless as the small details and practicalities. Has tight game: he constantly handles his beloved hot girlfriend with ease. Fast one-liners. Awesome negs. And obviously a bit mental and bipolar. So basically, just like Mystery.
Further evidence that Jackson Publick was into Game? There's an episode where Hank takes Dean to the mall and actually does daygame with him; all the PUA terminology is there.
At a meta-level (and of less prominence than the 'poor parenting' theme 2Wyked points out) then Game and strategies to pursue women is a theme of The Venture Bros. Pursuit of women features a lot during the series. Dr Venture represents the Gamma Herb and has crushing failure and occasional squalid scores. The Monarch is the beta transformed. By his peacocking and knoweldge of Game he now succeeds and get hot chicks. Brock Samson is The Natural Alpha: he just is and bangs endless hot chicks.
I'm gonna Tweet Jackson Publick and ask him to confirm!
