Oral sex could be hazardous to your health.

So say researchers who note that oral cancer stemming from the human papilloma virus is more common in the U.S. than oral cancer caused by abusing tobacco.

Researchers found a 225% increase in oral cancer cases in the U.S. from 1974 to 2007, mainly among white men, said Maura Gillison, a cancer researcher at Ohio State University.

The more oral-sex partners a man had, the greater his cancer risk, Gillison told a meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.

Tobacco use remains the leading cause of oral cancer in the rest of the world.

There as many as 150 different types of human papilloma viruses, and about 40 of those can be sexually transmitted, according to the National Cancer Institute.

HPV infections often go undetected and are the main cause of cervical cancer in women.

Scientists are examining whether Gardasil and Cervarix, the HPV vaccines approved to prevent genital warts and cervical cancer, could have a significant impact on oral cancer.

In the meantime, researchers are urging doctors and educators to start talking to teens in particular about the risks of oral sex.

yeah there are probably tons of crazy shit you can catch, but like you guys said, worry causes more issues in your head and body than most of the actual illnesses you can catch from just about anything.

I do know that asside from maybe what this article says, eating pussy is pretty safe. Yes. You can get HPV from this. For that reason alone, do not go down. But why would a guy really want to do this anyway? Interestingly and fortunately there appears to be no association between girls going down on you and oral cancer resulting from HPV for them. So, they can continue to perform oral sex on you with out worry of HPV associated oral cancer.

Well...I guess I'm just gonna have to add that cancer to the list cause I'm still gonna do it!

lol... the reverse is actually true. HPV is a lot worse for women than it is for men and women have a much greater risk of cervical cancer after contracting HPV. Men can carry it symptom free but a small increased risk does not necessarily mean you will get oral cancer as a man.

I like going down so long as I know what I'm getting into. There are plenty of worse ways to die.

You are correct in that HPV infections in men are often asymptomatic in the genital area. HPV in the urogenital area is worse for females. However, for males, for whatever reason - unknown at this point - there is far more risk in oro-pharyngeal HPV infection in males than females. Why, I do not know. I do not think anyone does. Squamous cancer of the oropharynx is worse than that of the cervix. Be careful out there.

Happens quite often for me too. I suspect they feel self conscious and worry about the smell, but I'll always check that it's not bad before diving down.

One girl I was with who also likes girls would only let other girls do it.

Interested to hear others' thoughts on this.
