Pictures of Dead Relative on Facebook!...Now I've Seen it All

Jesus.
This teenager American girl who is one of my Facebook friends (I dated her mother for a few years when I was in my early 20s), just posted a handful of photos of herself mourning over the body of dead grandmother, kissing her forehead, looking sad, etc. Her grandmother's face is one of agony, in the throes of death, mouth gaping open, skin white as a fish.
I remember when my grandmother died and when she'd come into consciousness periodically, it struck me that she was more embarrassed than anything else by us even being there. She was a proud, stubborn woman, and thinking back I can imagine having your deathbed surrounded is like your most vulnerable moment publicized. Like being extremely sick, looking like shit and feeling nauseous from the meds, and everyone is gathered around you and you have nowhere to hide.
If my grandkids post photos of me dying on Facebook, I'm coming back to strangle their scrawny fucking necks. No one wants to be remembered that way. In fact, I think I'd much rather everyone filed in to say their goodbyes and then left me alone in a room to get on with dying, and no one but a nurse bothering me to come in and make sure I'm passing comfortably.
What pitiful, selfish attention-whoring...

After some reflection, I think she just lacks the maturity and good sense to properly analyze the situation. She's caught up in the moment, and I know when I was her age, I reacted to death in strange, sometimes embarrassing (when I think back) ways as well.
Honestly, I blame her family more than anyone else. Somebody needs to pull her aside and let her know that posting those pictures is inappropriate - that's what I'd do if it was my daughter, niece, etc, or if I was related to the person in the photos. But my guess is no one will. Young Americans are extremely lacking in sensible guidance these days.
And her mom always was a poor excuse for a mother as it is.

Could be the start of a revival trend - portraits with dead family members used to be common in the Victorian era:

In the victorian era, they most likely did not pin those photos on their frontdoors or post them up at the marketplace.

Facebook will become more morbid as time goes on.
Women will see themselves when they were younger, before they hit the wall.
Friends will die in real life and their profile will stay (I've had this happen).
One day, a generation of grandmas will be posting for attention of facebook.
I bet there is going to be a reaction against it. There's a whole new crop of babies whose parents post everything about them from the time they are born. These are babies whose parents set up facebook accounts for them before they are even born.
A lot of what they do as a tyke will be recorded online. They might react against this and their parents' ways when they get older.

I once saw a girl on Okcupid put up a pic of her at her grandma's open casket wake/funeral. I wish I saved it before she deleted it.

At least the South American aspiring nurse's friends seem to be calling her out in the comments.

Those baby ones are fucked up.
No wonder the Victorians were so obsessed with the supernatural and the occult.
What the fuck is that behind the chair?!
