Vice: UK's Scariest Debt Collector

I'm not sure if this is 100% real, as he admits to various large crimes, and surely you can't do that without basically inviting police investigations? There are rumours on the web that it is sort of semi-scripted, a la The Hills or whatever, I don't know. It's just apparently, the guy didn't really own that gym, somebody not mentioned in the doc did, and there were a few other inconsistencies a few people who live locally mentioned. That said, it's very entertaining nevertheless and I'm intrigued to hear what you Yanks (and others) will make of the Liverpool accent!

I believe he was involved with the drug gang that set a few car bombs off next to local police stations a few years ago. Definitely not a individual you would want to mess with. http://www.vice.com/en_uk/read/the-carte...-drug-gang

Good interview with Graham Johnson that. He's the one who made this documentary too.

I'm pretty fascinated with all sorts of organized crime, specifically the Italian/Italian-American Mafia and also a lesser known Italian crime group known as The Camorra. Cool sounding name I think haha. I do think that TV has glamorized the Mafia, and it's easy to forget that these people are really horrible criminals and cause a lot of dreadful stuff. I mean, The Sopranos is my favorite show and it's aim is to make you sympathize with a pretty horrid person in Tony. It's brilliant due to scenes like this:

It make you question your own moral code, as myself and almost anyone who watches it wants Melfi to get Tony to kill the rapist. Sorry for going off topic!

So I watched that, and one of the related videos that popped up at the end was something called "Geordie Shore"

I figured it had to be some spin off from Jersey Shore, but I never watched the original so I wasn't sure.

I was confused at first if these people were British, or Australian, then realized they were Brits in Australia.

But holy shit it's even worse than the random clips I've seen from the U.S. version, and with some meltdown game too:

Any comments or stories about this from the U.K. members?

In response to Teedub, I prefer the debt collector guys accents more than the people in this shore show, but the fact they had subtitles also made me think of times when I was trying to decipher some American accents:

I know certain regions in the U.K. are considered to have more preferable accents than others, how does that breakdown for you guys?

Or which ones are considered the best/worst?

Geordie shore is the Jersey shore run spin off for Newcastle. There was also the valleys which was the Welsh spin off. In Geordie shore there's a guy called Gary who has some of the most amazing game. Across 3 seasons he takes the prettiest youngest girl in the house and makes her his own personal harem, when he heads out if he doesn't pull he'll sleep with her. For three seasons she complains and cries to the camera saying she doesn't know why she loves him so.

The guy has an unmatched notch count, in the first season he's the only dude getting snl dependably with high quality women. Just to list the achievements I remember, Charlotte kept as plan b harem, 3 some with two foreign girls, numerous 8s, pulls three girls in the club but gets blocked by some jealous guy in the house who goes nuts and smashes up their place. Again his maintenance Charlotte is the most impressive thing to me. Also practices big dick game the way it's meant to be done, smashes girls and let's them tell their pals. Says 'don't worry, I'm not putting it in your ass, it would kill you'

Game recognised.

In response to the above question - Southern Estuary English - or English accent from the South-East, the type they speak on the BBC is seen as the classic and most well received accent.

There is a certain stigma attached to some regional accents.

Someone may have gone to Oxford but if they have a Birmingham accent for example a lot of people think it makes someone sound unintelligent.

Or a West Country accent from Bristol someone may think they're a farmer and a country bumpkin from their accent!

There's historical and cultural prejudice surrounding the accents. Obviously these are just stereotypes, but that's to give you the general idea.

With regards to the video, you would definitely not want to be on the wrong side of those guys. Is that shot in Liverpool or Warrington?

I got hooked watching it though, fascinating viewing!

Am I the only one who doesn;t find this guy intimidating or scary. If he was rude to me like that i'd just knock his block off.

I always wondered if these Geordie shore guys would be as successful without the fame and cameras.

Haha I think you'd probably get the shit kicked out of you, but I don't know you so... I agree on face value he doesn't really scare me, but I bet if I was in a room with him he'd have a very menacing aura. People who've been around that sort of shit usually do.

Yeah it's actually Warrington, but the more working class people there still speak with a strong Scouse accent. I'm not sure if there's any, even slight, differences at all.

I definetly understand how this guy can be intimidating for most people, but I am not really intimidated by some old tough guy. I can have a mean streak if needed and as a 96kg wrestler I think i'd take him.

It's not about that, it's about who he has on his side. I'm all for having a little fist fight, but when there's drugs, guns and gangs involved...I'm running a million miles from shit like that.

Yeh, you're right. I meant in a more simplistic way; some old tough guy was trying to intimidate me who i didn't know. Not that I lived in a community with them where they;d get their boys to come after me or pull a gun on me.

Although I think as a man sometimes you gotta prepare to kill or be killed. If someone like this wanted to threaten to kill me or my family i'd take his head; see how tough they are once you taken one of their heads.

People in Warrington speak nothing like scousers. Their accent is a bizarre mix of Mancunian and Scouse with slang from both cities added into the mix. Makes a lot of sense considering the location of the town.

Ah OK, to me Kerry Katona sounded scouse, but when I think of it, it is a sort of blend.

I can't barely understand his accent! Which are the other most difficult accents in english to understand?

Some Scottish dialects are incomprehensible even to me. Strong Newcastle, or 'Geordie' is a little difficult too. I think any strong regional dialect would be pretty difficult for a non-native, even to some natives.
